History of the Moco Museum

It is impossible to mention the history of the Moco Museum in Amsterdam without mentioning the house that welcomes it, the Alsberg villa. This former residence was designed in 1904 by the architect Eduard Cuypers , nephew of Pierre Cuypers himself at the origin of the design of two emblematic places of Amsterdam, the central station and the Rijksmuseum .

This charming and elegant house was renovated for the occasion by the Piet Boon architecture studio, and is an integral part of the experience of a visit to the Moco Museum in Amsterdam.

Unlike its walls, the museum is quite recent since it opened its doors only in April 2016. For its inauguration, the Moco Museum in Amsterdam announced the colour by offering two high-quality exhibitions: Laugh Now , consisting of works of street artist mysterious and reselling Banksy , and Royal who brought to light the work of the master of Pop-Art, Andy Warhol.

Kim and Lionel Logchies, installed in the middle of Art for many years and already owners of the Lionel Gallery , are at the origin of the project.
