Caral is located in the Supe Valley a few 160 km north of Lima . With an extension of 65 hectares, Caral offers a formidable series of incredible buildings such as the Amphitheatre pyramid, the residential area of Elite and the major Pyramid. Caral is surely the one of the oldest cities in America . This city was built by the civilization of Caral which is still known today as “Caral Supe” or Norte Chico. According to recent archaeological studies, its construction would go back to 2000 until 2600 before our era. Caral was therefore contemporary of the great pyramids of Egypt. It has been registered in UNESCO World Heritage since June 2009.

What to see in Caral?

Accompanied by a Spanish-speaking or English-speaking guide, you perform a archaeological visit with a return/return from your hotel.

Since Caral was discovered not very long ago (in 1905 and the real excavations only started again from 1990), its access is still chaotic but there are also bus lines that offer to take you. You enter the city by taking a small path nestled in the arid mountains and sand dunes. The site of Caral extends over 65 hectares and includes about 20 pyramids that are surrounded by several homes.

In the past, Caral sheltered between 5 and 10,000 inhabitants and the power being theocratic, which explains that there is no wall or wall around the city.

There is the edified amphitheatre to celebrate religious ceremonies and to give musical performances (this is how you will discover that pelican bones and condors were used as flutes of bread!). The pyramids remain sublime and impressive because they were built in cascade: each death of a sovereign, his successor built a wall over the old pyramid without destroying the previous one.

For those who have chosen an all-in-one formula, it is possible to have a pick-up at your hotel, which you reside in Miraflores or Isidro (Lima). If the hotel is not located in its neighbourhoods, it is always possible to determine an alternative meeting point. L’ excursion to Caral includes the tour itself, the lunch, the services of an interpreter guide and the transport from your hotel.

Have you visited the city of Caral?
