Villa Borghese is the largest park in Rome. Originally, this estate was only a modest lopin of land, owned by the rich and powerful Borghese family since the 1580s. In 1605 Cardinal Caffarelli-Borghese – the nephew of Pope Paul V, Camile Borghese – transformed a vineyard into sumptuous and green gardens, embellished with multiple fountains: to mark the social status of the family, he built the most important park since the Empire of Rome. It was in 1901 that the park became the property of the Italian state, and since then, access was opened to the public.

Today, the Villa Borghese stretches over 80 hectares, including the Villa Medici, which houses the Académie de France in Rome, as well as the famous Borghese Gallery. The visitor can freely admire one of the most beautiful collections of pictorial art in the world, the creations of the most renowned artists of Antiquity and the Italian Renaissance:

  • Sandro Botticelli:Virgin to the Child,
  • The Bernin: self-portraits,
  • The Titian:Sacred love and profane love,
  • The Perugin:Saint Sébastien,
  • The Corrège:Danae and the golden rain,
  • The Caravaggio:La Madone des palfreniers, Portrait of Pope Paul V,
  • Guido Reni:Moses and the tables of the Law,
  • Raphael:Portrait of a man, The Lady at the unicorn,
  • Rubens: Lamentation on Christ dead.
