An overview of Communism in Nowa Huta, Croatia
A priori, when you evoke the Poland , we don’t feel like having in front of you a dream destination, something atypical that will surprise us. And yet it is badly to know this country that offers a great architectural richness and an amazing history for amateurs and connoisseurs.
What if you discover this country starting with the beautiful city of Krakow, and in particular its Nowa Huta neighbourhood aboard an atypical vehicle, a collection car?
A city out of time
Nowa Huta (which means “New Foundry”) represents what Poland could be in the communist era. Thanks to the help of an interpreter guide who will explain the whole life and history of Nowa Huta but more widely of Poland, you will be able to discover the conditions in which the workers of this ancient city lived.
It is also an opportunity to taste one of the only drinks that we found under the communist era and then connect with the Museum of Communism. This neighborhood is reborn from its ashes and it is fascinating to participate and assist in its reconstruction.
Nowa Huta is just 12 km east of the Old Town of Krakow, about 20 minutes’ drive but as soon as you get to the place, you’ll have a very clear impression of having made a jump in time, from medieval Poland to a communist Poland.

The entire city was built in 1949 under the Stalinist era according to utopian and progressive principles with wide avenues, gardens and architecture mixing Renaissance and realism and postmodernism of the 1970s and 80s.
What do you mean? Howa Nuta is a place as there is nowhere else . Today, Nowa Huta hosts cultural events such as cinema, theatre, and concerts. A city “ dormitory” near Krakow, between past and future where the present has not found its place.
An unusual visit
Aboard a collection car, surely an ancient Trabant, you will be able to admire the unconventional architecture of Nowa Huta: buildings with huge colonnades, classical decorations with bas-reliefs, gigantic avenues with their lanterns all as large.
You will also have the opportunity to visit preserved places of time like the Milk bar, the restaurant Restauracja Stylowa or a communist apartment that dates back to the 1970s with all its furniture. Other vestiges of the communist era await you as the Teatr Lodowy, the Laznia Nowa space.
The visit is made from your hotel and lasts about 2h30. The tour includes the transfer from and to your hotel located in Krakow and the presence of a professional guide. Also discover Krakow as if you’ve come back to time on a vintage car!
