The Cu Chi tunnels were at the heart of the Vietnam War
During your stay in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), you will see that there are many activities that are not located within the former capital of Vietnam. As I was able to do during my trip to Vietnam , a visit to C POL Chi tunnels will be for you an unmistakable activity if you are in Saigon. Although very touristic, it is the best way to realize the living conditions of the Vilàt Cộng during the Vietnam War.
Tips to book your visit to the C FI Chi Tunnels
Before anything, don't reserve yours tour in your hotel for example, because it will cost you 3 to 5 times more than in a specialized agency. In Ho Chi Minh, in the district of the ridge (the locals call it Phiva tây), go to the street De Tham .
This is where many local tourism agencies are located. The best known is Sinh Café, renowned TheSinhTourist (attention to copies), but you have the choice: compare agencies and prices if you have a small budget.
Otherwise, the agency a little more “luxury” (all is relative) is “Saigon Tourist”. For groups of 4 to 6 people, it is even more profitable to take a taxi (and faster). Ask the driver to wait on the spot.
Count between 120,000 and 150,000 VND (between 4 and 5€) to pay the agency (guide + bus) and 90,000 VND (3€) for the entry ticket to the site Cu Chi tunnels (20 000 VND for Vietnamese).
Half a day is required visit the Cu Chi tunnels . Know that you can visit in the same day the Caodized Temple of Tây Ninh ( Temple of Cao Dài ).

On the site, you will pass through the tunnels. One wonders how the Vilàt Cộng did to live in these tunnels, it is almost impossible to advance, the tunnels measure 1 meter height. A guide will explain the typical days of the inhabitants of the tunnels with scenes of everyday life. You will see traps for enemies, objects, still standing buildings, etc...

If the tenacious spirit of Vietnamese should be symbolized by a place, then Cu Chi would be this one. This district Ho Chi Minh City now has a population of about 350,000, but during the American war there were about 80,000 inhabitants. At first sight, there is little evidence here indicating the intensity of fighting, bombing and destruction that took place in Cu Chi during the war. To see what happened, you have to dig deeper into the underground.

The Cu Chi Tunnel Network became legendary in the 1960s for its role in facilitating the control of the rural area by the Vienciat Cộng only 30 or 40 km from Ho Chi Minh City. At its peak, the tunnel system ranged from the South Vietnamese capital to the Cambodian border. In the Cu Chi district alone, there were more 250 km of tunnels . The network, some of which were on several floors, included countless traps, common living areas, storage facilities, weapons factories, country hospitals, command centres and kitchens.
The only solution that the Americans found to fight the inhabitants of the tunnels was to massively bomb the area.
Cu Chi has become a pilgrimage site for Vietnamese schoolchildren and Communist Party officials. This place really deserves a visit.
I myself out, sweating, from one of the tunnels
Shooting with weapons on the site of Cu Chi
For those with a little lack of action during the tunnel visit, know that it is possible to shoot with weapons. Available weapons are the Kalashnikov (AK47), American machine gun (M16), rifle, heavy machine gun M60, AR15 and M30. The prices are about 30,000 VND (1€) the ball. You have to buy a minimum of 10 bullets.
When I visited the Cu Chi tunnels, I also visited the temple of Cao Dai in the same day.
