History of OE Skyspace LA in Los Angeles
In the centre of Los Angeles, the observation platform OUE Skyspace LA stands at the top of the emblematic U.S. Bank Tower building (also known as Library Tower). A victim of two fires in 1986, the tower was then integrated into a $1 billion rehabilitation project. The goal? Give a second life to the Los Angeles library.
It was only in July 2014 that the OO Skyspace project was born. This year, Overseas Union Enterprise (OE) became owner of the site, announcing the construction of an observation bridge at the 69th and 70th floors. But that’s not all: to make the place a full cultural and shared space, the project included a restaurant (71Above) on the 71st floor and an exhibition hall on the 54th floor. A total of $31 million is invested in the renovation! When the tower opens its doors on June 25, 2016, it also reveals a new hall on the ground floor as well as an entrance reserved for tourists on the second floor.
Anecdote : With its 310 meters high and 73 floors, the tower was taken 7th place in the ranking among the highest skyscrapers on the planet! Elected also the highest tower in Los Angeles and California, it was dismantled in 2017 by the Wilshire Grand Center (340 metres) and Salesforce towers in San Francisco (326 metres).
