Capital of Portugal and a flagship European destination, Lisbon is a sublime, sparkling and sunny city that makes the joy of its visitors. The City with 7 hills does not fail to marvel with its typical slope streets, its colorful buildings and its softness of living. You can't be bored! But who says hills, necessarily says hashed transport and complicated marches, right?
If the city is steeped, make sure: it is easy to move to Lisbon! For fortunately for travellers, the city is quite well served by public transport and you will have no trouble moving there.
The essential: the pass transport
The Lisboa Card is the official transport and tourist pass of the city of Lisbon. It allows to move to Lisbon free for 24, 48 or 72 hours thanks to public transport. This map also offers free access to 26 museums and reduced rates for many monuments and sites protected by UNESCO of the city.
For one day, the pass returns to 20€ €10.15 for an equivalent transport card. You can therefore choose this option to save money and avoid incessant ticket purchases (1,45€). However, the Lisboa Card has other advantages than free and unlimited transport.
The advantages of the Lisboa Card
Here are the benefits of the pass Lisboa Card to travel in Lisbon:
- The Lisboa Card allows you to travel with public transport in Lisbon for free and unlimited. Includes metro, bus, tram (including the famous line 28), funicular and elevator of Santa Justa, but also trains to Cascais and Sintra.
- You get free admissions for some museums and monuments, such as the Elevador de Santa Justa, the Tour de Belem, the Monastery of the Hiéronymites or the Azulejo Museum. Then you get discounts at the entrance to other museums and monuments: fado museum, Berardo museum, Gulbenkian museum, Sintra palaces as the Palace of Pena or the Château des Maures. Note that you do not pay your train tickets to Sintra also. If you use your Lisboa Card correctly, you will save on your visits.
- You avoid stress on arrival at the airport. You can remove your Lisboa Card from this place, then reach the city center by metro easily.
The modalities
Here are the rates for the Lisboa Card:
- 24h: 20€ (adult), 13€ (child from 4 to 15 years)
- 48h: 34€ (adult), 19€ (child)
- 72h: 42€ (adult), 22,5€ (child)
The Lisboa Card is valid one year after purchase . In case of unforeseen or a holiday report, you will always be able to use it. The 24, 48 or 72 hours of validity are triggered only after the first validation in transport or in attractions.
The Lisboa Card is bookable online, with e-mail receipt of a voucher, convertible on site in Lisbon Pass. You pay online and then remove your Lisboa Card from one of the following three points of sale:
- At Lisbon Airport (from 7am to midnight)
- At the reception centre in Lisbon (Plaça do Comércio)
- At the Foz Palace (Praça dos Restauradores)
The fastest and most available: trams and metro
To move to Lisbon from one quarter to another or in a neighborhood quickly, you can only be advised to borrow the trams. In addition to being useful, they are also very charming and historical. ♪ lines 28 and 12 are thus well known to travellers. They allow easy and fast access to the different monuments and old districts of Lisbon.
The metro is also ideal for traveling to Lisbon quickly. In addition to the tram, it allows to go from one end to the other of the city very quickly. Lisbon counts four lines and 55 metro stops .
The most available transport is obviously the metro and tram.
- Lisbon Metro is open from 6:30 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. The frequency of metro trains is on averagea passage every 6 to 9 minutes.
- As for trams, schedules vary by line. For example, the 28 operates from about 6 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., the 12 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The most comfortable: taxis
To move to Lisbon comfortably, you can also opt for taxis.
Although it is not the most economical means of transport, it is obviously the most convenient option, especially at night or if you have luggage. Taxis are numerous in the city or at the airport and often offer affordable rates , especially when you're two or three.

From Lisbon Airport
Located only seven kilometers from downtown, Lisbon Airport has many options to make its transfer. You'll only have to 20 to 40 minutes depending on the type of transport chosen to reach the city center. Three options are available to you:
- ♪ Aerobus shuttles offer 3 lines to reach Rossio, Cais de Sodré or the main station of Sete Rios. These buses usually circulate every twenty minutes, from 8am to 9pm, for a simple way to go 3,60€ and return to 5,40€.
- The second option, and the most economical, is to borrow the subway Lisbon. The red line has a terminus at the airport and will easily lead you to the city centre. Note that this subway transfer will be free if you book the Lisboa Card.
- The third option is to take a taxi or book a private shuttle in advance. This is the most comfortable type of transport, but also the more expensive !
