Tokyo
The metro Tokyo is exceptional: very fast, very one-time. With 102 lines and about 14 billion passengers a year, it makes the pride of the Tokyoites. But be careful not to speak too loud on the phone, everyone stays silent during the journey.
New York
Dans the city that never sleeps , the subway stays, too, awake. During work, traffic is not affected by the MTA company which manages the network very well. And even after Hurricane Sandy hit the city in 2012, the lines were repaired to almost 100% return. Finally, the MTA supports local musicians by broadcasting music from New York artists. You can also entertain yourself in the aisles by attending improvised shows.
Hong Kong
The MTR metro is according to many reviews on the canvas, the best underground carrier: clean, cheap, well indicated, regular, very effective (it connects all corners of the city Hong Kong ). You can find what you want at the edges of the docks like WiFi in 42 stations, shops, tactile guides, public toilets, handicapped access... There are no passage times, trains spend a short period of time. The airport shuttle leaves every 10 minutes!
London
It is the oldest metro in the world, and it celebrates its 150th anniversary in 2013. There are not really great innovations on its lines, but the service remains mythical, and cheap compared to the cost of life to London .
Seoul
7 million passengers per day in this underground transport service managed by 3 different companies in the Korean capital . Very at the cutting edge of technology with WiFi, heated seats in winter, televisions, etc... no wonder for a very advanced country in computer technology. Only disappointment: the hours, which do not allow to travel at night: close at midnight in weekdays.
Paris
Parisians apparently don’t like walking: 14 lines, 245 stations out of only 87 km2 to Paris . With 1.5 billion passengers a year, the metro in the city of light appears in the top 5 of the world's busiest metros. Most of its lines do not hold the automatic opening of the doors: some say it’s a fault, Toolito says it gives even more charm to this beautiful city.
Singapore
The SMRT Singapore swept the MetroRail Awards in 2010 winning the most energy-efficient, most technologically innovative, and the best Asia-Pacific metro. In summer, heating in winter, it is a good refuge for those who do not like to walk under unpleasant temperatures. However, the service has some efforts to do with the lack of terminals to charge its cards/tickets.
Madrid
Madrid has one of the longest metro systems in the world. 294 km for the metro and 386 km additional with the commuter trains. With 1.5 billion passengers a year, 21 lines and 396 stations, it is still not bad for a city of only 6.5 million inhabitants. Add the 1,656 escalators to get you out of the underground, better than any other service in the world.
Guangzhou
The first metro line Guangzhou was only created in 1997, and the second in 2002. But since then, investments in infrastructure have exploded, with $11 billion in 6 years. Today, you can now use the 8 lines (current work) the 144 stations, and 236 km of track. In 2015, it is planned to join Hong Kong in 48 minutes with an express. This metro deserved a small mention.
