The 8 things to do on the Presqu’ Island of Crozon

Are you planning to visit the Crozon Peninsula? Perfect, we have selected the 8 best things to do!

The Finistère is the most western department of France. At the end of the region Brittany who, herself, is coming out of the country, is taking the edges of the world. Its particularity is to be vertically cut into three parts. In the north, the country of Leon, south, Cape Sizun and Bigouden. Then, in the centre, we find the Presqu’Ile de Crozon, natural theatre, between land and sea. Completely integrated into the Regional Natural Park of the Armoric, the peninsula advances in the Iroise Sea without half a measure. Composed of cliffs, pointed rocks and large valleys, it is a place where nature is not allowed to do. Every year more and more frequented, visiting the Presqu’Ile de Crozon becomes a must in Brittany. But what about the area itself? A whole stay would be appropriate, for a total discovery, so much it has to offer us.

1. La Pointe de Pen-Hir

The Pointe de Pen-Hir offers a breathtaking view of the Iroise Sea. In particular, watch the rock formation called Tas de Pois: huge rocks more or less aligned, sheltering an amazing fauna. This tip is easily accessible on foot, and many trails facilitate this discovery. However, make sure not to get too close to the edge, sometimes abrupt.

To the Bretons Monument

It is a huge structure inaugurated by the General de Gaulle in honour of Breton soldiers fallen for France during the Second World War. To be seen under a radiant sun.

2. La Plage de l’Île Vierge

Small terrestrial paradise on the Breton coastline, the beach of Virgin Island is a magnificent natural creek. Collée à la Pointe de Saint-Hernot, its translucent blue waters and fine sand delight swimmers like fierce lovers.

For explorers, the days when the water is calm, you can practice snorkeling along the coast to the east. Otherwise follow the path above the beach. It will lead you to the tip, from which you will see a panorama on the horizon. And above all, marvel at this virgin nature.

3. Megalithes

Alignments of Lagatjar

Lagatjar alignments are located near Camaret-sur-Mer. In 87, the menhirs stand proudly on a flat ground. Some of them measure up to 3 metres high. The site has been classified as Historic Monument since 1883 but was restored between 1928 and 1929. Today it is easy to walk around, and harder to find an explanation for these mysterious stones...

Ty ar C’huré (maison du curé)

South of Morgat, there is a strange site of megalithes: Ty ar C’huré, literally Maison du Curé. These are dozens of stones scattered over almost 300 metres, which form this secret alignment. We don't know why or how these stones came here. Their name is also a mystery, but many assumptions have emerged. For example, it is said that it could have been the house of a Breton druid at the Bronze Age!

4. The Cap de la Chèvre

At the southern end of the tip of the Presqu’Ile de Crozon, is Cape de la Chèvre. Dressed on its cliffs, it then closes the Bay of Douarnenez by the north. It is a very nice place to discover if you want to visit the Presqu’ Island of Crozon in its entirety.

A walk in the shape of a large loop is possible, along the paths lined with ajoncs. Get some binoculars, because by looking towards the land, you can see the Dominican coast and all Cape Sizun.

5. Fort des Capucins in Roscanvel

Fort des Capucins is located on the island of the same name, on the other side of Roscanvel. It was built in the middle of the 19th century and installed in a strategic location, at the entrance of the Rade de Brest . This fort is cut to the stone of the islet and it was built in order to control the passages of the entire ankle of Camaret and the entrance of Brest.

Unique terrestrial access, a bow bridge connects it to the coast. Today, there is therefore an electric plant, a shop, cannons and a small railroad destined to supply what was a barracks.

6. The island of Aber and its fort

The island of Aber (estuary) spreads in the Iroise Sea... until the tide descends! Indeed, if it is inaccessible to high tide, it’s a whole different story to low tide. On the island, a fort was built there in 1862, today in ruins.

The Bay of Douarnenez is visible in its entirety and the beach of the Aber stands under your feet! Smaller, the end of the day offers a panorama of very pleasant colors. Advice to photographers! However, watch the tide schedules well so you don't find yourself in bad posture.

7. The Artists of Camaret-sur-Mer district
