1. Myrina

Myrina is the largest city in Lemnos. Also, she's the most animated. But what to do in Lemnos when we are in his capital? First, go up to the main promontory for twenty minutes. Then, once at the top, go to the castle of Myrina. Built in the 13th century, it offers a free visit around its ruins and offers a superb panorama of the city! Continue the discovery of Myrina with the archaeological museum. Located in an old neoclassical residence, it contains findings from the various archaeological sites of Lemnos.

2. Shrine of the Cabires

6. The three salt lakes

Lemnos hosts three marine lakes named Alyki, Asprolimni and Chortarolimni. Together, they host a large number of migratory birds. It is even possible to observe pink flamingos! For reasons of preservation, these lakes are part of the European network NATURA 2000.

8. Poliochni

9. Thanos and the chapel Panagia Kakaviotissa

Four kilometers south of Myrina is Thanos. Located in the vicinity of coastal hills, this picturesque little village houses 500 inhabitants (most farmers).

Go to the center to contemplate the ruins of the church of Agios Konstantinos. Twenty minutes walk from the centre, the Panagia Kakaviotissa chapel awaits you at the top of its hill. Nestled in rocky cavity and perfectly preserved, it offers a superb overview of the local heritage!

10. The chapel of Zoodochos Pigi

What else is there to do in Lemnos? Direction Kotsinas and his chapel of Zoodochos Pigi. From the Byzantine era, the latter is known for its sacred water source. She is also taken for her statue of Maroula, a well-known local heroine for her struggle against the Ottomans. From the hill on which the church is located, you will also enjoy a beautiful panoramic view.

Note : to access the chapel of Zoodochos Pigi, you will have to walk a few minutes from the beach of Kotsinas.

11. Keros beach, surf kite and windsurf

The beach of Keros is located in the bay of the same name in Kalliopi. This is a dream spot for kite surf or windsurfing enthusiasts! It is here that several surf schools have been installed where beginners and confirmed take pleasure in getting to the water. It must be said that the salty-Mer Aegean mix offers an idyllic frame.

If you're rather fierce, enjoy it! The beach of Keros is vast, you will easily find a peaceful place to install.

How to get to Lemnos?

By plane from France

France, Athens, Lemnos

To visit Lemnos, know that the island has an airport (between Moudros and Myrina), near Varos. However, there is no direct flight from France: a stopover in Athens will be required. The Greek capital provides daily flights to Lemnos.

Note : if you want to visit other islands of the archipelago, Lemnos provides several direct flights to Lesbos, Chios, Icarie, Rhodes, Samos and Thessaloniki. From France or Greece, we recommend that you consult the frequency of flights on a type-based comparator Ulysses . Indeed, prices and frequencies vary depending on the periods of the year.

From the airport to Myrina

Once at Lemnos airport, count about 25€ taxi to go to Myrina. You can take it bus for 3€ (line Moudros-Aéroport-Myrina) . Please note however: the bus only passes five times a day, so check out the schedules in advance.

By boat from Greece

You can also take the boat to visit Lemnos. In this way you will arrive at the new port of Myrina. Links exist with Kavala, Thessaloniki, Skyros, Lesbos and the small island of Agios Efstratios.

Once on earth, several options are considered:

  • By bus : you can count on the daily Moudros-Myrina bus link. It is an economic solution but not common.
  • By taxi: a taxi station is located on the central square of Myrina.
  • By car: If you want freedom, go to the seafront. This is where you can rent a vehicle for your stay. After all, what better than a car or scooter to visit Lemnos?

Where to stay in Lemnos?

To visit Lemnos and to fully enjoy, different housing solutions exist. You can opt for an apartment in Myrina via Airbnb. Aisni, you will live nightlife on the seafront without constraint. On the other hand, if you want to sleep in a picturesque village, stay away: the authentic town of Kontias will seduce you! Finally, for accommodation east of Lemnos consider a hotel to Moudros or Varos. Regardless of your criteria, prefer a Compare hotels to gauge the opinions and tariffs practised.

Council : Consider booking your accommodation in Lemnos in advance. The Greeks are faithful to this peaceful island, so the establishments quickly display complete.
