1. Pico del Teide

Of course, this hike in Tenerife is long and difficult. The temperature variation between the foot and the top can also be very important. Nevertheless, this is probably the most beautiful trail in the country and a magical discovery.

This trek in Tenerife takes you to the highest point of Spain, the Pico del Teide, an active volcano. Some hikers climb up in two days in order to admire the sunrise from the top.

Throughout the road, the landscapes pass from classic to unreal. The approach to the summit is turning us into another world. The view is lunar, as if a cataclysm had all devastated. From the refuge, the last 700 meters are difficult, the slope is rough... but the reward at the top is so exceptional and the view on the other unique islands that we forget the pain quickly!

2. Chinyero volcano circuit

Located near the Pico del Teide, the Chinyero volcano is a nice hike in Tenerife to reach the crater of a volcano whose last eruption dates from 1909. This trek in Tenerife passes through landscapes as diverse as a pine forest followed by lava trails from previous eruptions.

The trail is a rather easy and slightly inclined circular road. It is therefore accessible to all and is in particular a good alternative for those who do not have the physical condition to climb the Pico del Teide.

3. Roques de García

Hiking in Tenerife also located near the Pico del Teide, this trail is short, which makes it easy to mitigate its small difficulty. Here too, you will have the opportunity to admire this beautiful and desolating landscape caused by previous volcanic eruptions.

There are also some famous rock formations such as El Torrotito, El Burro and Roques Blancos.

4. El Bosque de los Enigmas – Mirador de Zapata

Another easy hike in Tenerife for people who want to see sublime landscapes without making too much effort. Located close to Santa Cruz in the north of the island, the circular trail consists of a first part downhill and the second climb up to Cruz del Carmen.

Gorgeous landscapes open under your eyes, on the ocean and the other islands of the archipelago. This hike in Tenerife is recommended for beginners and families because it does not present great difficulties.

5. Callejón de Teno – Cumbre de Baracán (PR-TF 57)

A well-marked hike to Tenerife, this trail from the north of the island is one of the most popular on the island. Passing through the El Palmar valley, the circular road is divided into two parts.

The first, difficult, goes through the only laurel forest in Tenerife. The second, easier, is the one that offers the magnificent views of the ocean and the surrounding summits. The panorama from Baracán is the most beautiful rewards for the efforts provided.

6. Monte Guajara

Another volcano and a hike in Tenerife near the Pico del Teide. But this one is a dormant volcano. The trail is difficult and leaned, especially in its first part. More than the slope, it is the sun that makes it suffer! The shadow is indeed rare during this hike in Tenerife.

The reward of effort is the second part of the trail, close to the volcano crater. From above, the view of the Teide is sublime and, if the cloud cover is absent, that on the islands of Gran Canaria and La Gomera is fantastic!

7. La Caleta – El Puertito

Located south of the island, this hike in Tenerife, simple and accessible to all, is very different from previous ones. It has the particularity of walking along the coast and giving you the opportunity to swim in one of the trail’s coves. You'll even cross a naturist beach!

8. Benijo – El Draguillo vía Camino del Hediondo

This hike in Tenerife is located on the northern tip of the island offers stunning views of the ocean and the surrounding hills, including the Macizo de Anaga. It is an original hike, on the cliff, with many rocks on the trail.

The first part of this trek in Tenerife is difficult, most often climbing up to the village of El Draguillo. The second part is usually downhill and it is the one that offers the most beautiful views to the ocean at each turn, characteristic of this part of the island.

9. Barranco del Infierno

This hike in Tenerife is on the opposite side, on the southern tip of the island. This infernal nickname comes from its wild and lean terrain. Rest assured, this trek in Tenerife has only the name! On the trail you will pass in front of the highest waterfalls on the island.

10. Chabuco Canal

The Chabuco Canal hike offers an incredible trail that will provide you with adrenaline! The departure is quite difficult since you will almost do all the positive denial at the beginning of the hike. But the rest is well worth the effort: the trail offers to walk cliffs with breathtaking views within the Rural Park of Anaga.

Your ride is playful because you’ll pass a dozen bridges with streams as well as a dozen tunnels dug to the rock. You have to be vigilant on the final since the path is not marked.

11. Afur – Playa de Tamadite – El Chorro

For the last hike in Tenerife from our selection, we return to the north of the island. It is a difficult hike, with many steep slopes and paths near the ravine. It is therefore rather destined for bitter hikers.

The reward for these difficulties is to offer wonderful views, especially on the ocean on the second part of the course. If you wish, you have the opportunity to stop on Tamadite beach to rest or swim with caution because it is here that lives the eel of Tenerife!
