1. Schinias, family

About 45 kilometres north of the Greek capital is Marathon Bay. Long sand strips form private beaches where you have to pay an entrance fee. The beach of Schinias, on the other hand, is a free access beach located in a natural area Natura 2000.

The charm of this beach lies in its seafront bordered by a magnificent pine forest. The beach is perfect for families. The children will find fine sand to make sandy castles. The beach is gently sloping to enter the water safely, and the waves are few.

Little more: there is no dangerous road near the beach.

2. Kavouri, the quiet

About 20 kilometers from Athens, the beach of Kavouri actually offers two swimming places, Mégalo la grande and Mikro la petite. These are free access beaches, where you can swim for much of the year. The beaches are protected from the wind and the water temperature remains constant.

In Kavouri, water is not too deep, which is ideal for families with young children. You will find restaurants and cafes, to spend a day in peace.

3. Legrena, the favorite of the Athenians

The Athenians are in love with Legrena Beach and we understand why when we get there! It is located on the road from Athens to Sounion, 60 km south of the capital. You park on the parking lot and walk a little before you reach it, but the view is impressive!

You discover a fine sandy beach with rocks on the north tip, and an island in the middle of the Mediterranean just ahead. Bathing in Athens, and particularly in Legrena, is a breathtaking experience for lovers of wild nature. Note that the right tip of the beach is reserved for nudists.

4. Limanakia, the Indomitant

The beach of Limanakia is one of the most popular in the region of Athens. It is between Vouliagmeni and Varzika, on the road to Sounion. Local residents meet there to swim and scuba diving. The youngest challenge each other by jumping from the rocks.

You will get there after a short walk from the coastal road. The beach is not furnished, but it has a bar where you will find drinks until late in the night.

5. Vromopousi, the picturesque

The beach of Vromopousi is a beach in free access, located north of the Greek capital.
