There are three main rafting spots in Bali, which are the Agung, Telaga Waja and Melangit rivers. The rafting routes are classified in 6 levels, which are:

  • 1 : very easy (peaceful and regular course, small currents and whirlpools, and slight slopes)
  • 2 : easy (slightly irregular, low speeds and simple obstacles)
  • 3 : intermediate (irgull course with waves and whirlpools, marked currents and some visible obstacles)
  • 4 : difficult (technical cords, waves and powerful rollers, large elevations and non-visible obstacles)
  • 5: very difficult (very technical, strong waves, dangerous obstacles, swirling and major denivels)
  • 6 : almost insurmountable

1. Ayung River

Length of descent: 2h

Distance: 12km

Ayung is simply the largest and longest river in Bali. Located in the region of Ubud , it extends about 70 kilometers. It forms in the mountains of the north of the island, crosses the regions of Bangli, Badung and Gianyar, before spilling into the Strait of Badung in Sanur.

With its many rapids, this river is the perfect playground for those who want to practice rafting in Bali.

The course

Ayung offers a rafting course in bright waters of about 12 kilometers, between 1h30 and 2h30 descent . Through the water, you can enjoy the diversity of Bali landscapes: the valley, lush forests, lush forests, and rice fields a bright green or majestic cascades as the Tegenungan waterfall .

The average power of Ayung Falls is estimated at 2-3. The river has only a few rocks, rough passages and small falls. Overall, this rafting spot remains family and the proposed route is accessible to as many. This is your first time? The Ayung River is therefore a favorable spot for a rafting baptism in Bali.

Note, however, that in the rainy season, when the water level rises and medium waves form, it can go into force 4. Under these conditions, a first rafting experience or any other activity with a paddle is highly recommended.

Practical information

The Ayung River is ideally located as it is only located 20min road from Ubud or 1h30 from Kuta . In this way you will find in the city many agencies offering rafting excursions on the day or half day. Most include support and return to your accommodation, as well as a lunch.

The price of a rafting tour on the Ayung River in Bali is between 5€ and 65€ per person according to the offers. But like almost everything in Bali, it is always possible to negotiate the tariff directly with the agency.

Note: You will have to climb and descend hundreds of steps to access the river.

2. River Telaga Waja

Level: 1-2 (with Class 3 passage)

Length of descent: 3h

Distance: 17km

The clear water of Telaga Waja flows into the sidemen area, east of Bali Island, Indonesia. This river takes its sources to Mont Abang , cross the region of Rendang to finally throw into the sea of Bali.

With its currents and numerous waterfalls, the Telaga Waja wild river is suitable for rafting in Bali.

The course

With nearly 17km of track, the Telaga Waja River offers the longest rafting route in Bali's vibrant waters. We have to count about 3h to come to the end of this descent. Making rafting in Bali is an opportunity to observe the panorama made of green rice fields, mountains, rocky cliffs, jungles and waterfalls with an unprecedented perspective. A real immersion in the wild nature, away from the bustle of the city, this is what awaits you on Telaga Waja!

The Telaga Waja rapids are categorized as 1-2, with a Class 3 crossing. Thus, this rafting spot is suitable for all, even beginners and/or children.

With the help of your paddle and team spirit, you will come to the end of the torrents, steep turns, twists and slopes of this exceptional course. Finally, you’ll finish your race by taking a big challenge: you’re running from a water dam of five meters high! Strong senses guaranteed!

Practical information

This Bali rafting spot is located in Karangasem, north of Sidemen, approximately 2 hours' drive from Kuta. You will find the trip of your dreams to any agency on the island. If you are not on site, departures are offered from most of Bali’s tourist cities.

Do you want to make rafting in Bali on Telaga Waja? Still, we have to count between 20€ and 65€ by person according to the benefit. However, it is up to you to negotiate the best price! Care and return to your hotel, lunch and the presence of a guide are generally included in the fare.

Good to know: access to departure and arrival requires little walking.

3. River Melangit Klungkung

Distance: 8km

The Melangit Klungkung River is located in the village of Bakas, Banjarangkan district, in the reign of Klungkung in Bali. Melangit crosses a preserved tropical forest. It is considered one of the most beautiful Balinese rivers where to practice rafting.

The course

Long 8km, the Melangit River rafting track is shorter than the Ayung and Telaga Waja rivers. With multiple twists, falls and rocks, however, it requires some manoeuvres, which makes it very exciting! By opting for this rafting spot in Bali, be ready to marvel throughout the trip to the heart of this rainforest. In addition, think to raise your eyes during the periods of acclaim in an attempt to see the wild animals that are hiding there!

From an intermediate level, this course is more suitable for adventure enthusiasts and/or people who have already practiced rafting. There are more than thirty rapids, from 1 to 4 meters high, a sharp turn and rapid currents. So wait till you get watered!

Practical information

The rafting spot of Melangit Klungkung is located in 45min road from Ubud and 1h from Denpasar . On site, parking is only a 5-minute walk from the starting point of the route. At the point of arrival you will reach the parking lot from the bank in less than 10 minutes walk. As with other Bali rafting spots, you will have the choice between going directly to the starting point or being taken care of by the selected agency for your trip. The pick-up schedule will depend on where you stay in Bali.

The average price of the service with the transport, the presence of a guide and the lunch included is of 25€ per person. However, this rate can obviously vary depending on the agency, the content of the tour and your negotiating power!
