Many travellers know the Greek islands for their beaches and relaxing places, but few people refer to it when it comes to sports activities. Many Greek islands located in the Aegean Sea offer absolutely fantastic spots for the practice of kitesurfing and, by the way, windsurfing.
The wind in the Aegean is particularly strong in the summer, especially in the afternoon, which creates perfect conditions for such sports. Kitesurfers will find a sunny paradise where the wind is not a discriminating criterion for them. Here are some of the best spots to make kitesurf in Greece .
Naxos

Naxos is known worldwide as one of the best Greek islands to make kitesurfing. A large part of the west coast of the island offers perfect conditions to be towed, conditions being created by the Japanese a powerful wind from the north that periodically blows on the eastern Mediterranean.
The most famous beach for kitesurfing (and windsurfing) is Mikri Vigla, because it enjoys unique conditions with a wind that blows through the strait between Naxos and Paros. Laguna, Saint George Beach and Plaka are also good kitesurfing spots to consider if you are staying on the island of Naxos. The months of July and August are the ideal time for water sports, as the wind blows strong every day, from noon to the end of the afternoon. Leucade (Lefkada)

Among the best Greek islands to make kitesurfing and, again, windsurfing, we also count the island of Leucade. The beaches of Agios Ioannis and Vassiliki are particularly famous for the special wind conditions they offer and which improve the gliding experience.
Vassiliki beach, on the south coast, is perfect for windsurfing. The wind changes direction and strengthens during the day, making it an ideal place for all levels. The beach of Agios Ioannis, just outside the city of Lefkada, is ideal for the practice of kitesurfing because a regular hot wind blows throughout the summer. Both beaches are accessible to sportsmen of all levels, from beginners to the most advanced kitesurfers.
Paros

Kitesurfers will find in Paros some of the best spots for the practice of this sport. For windsurfers, the best spots in Paros are New Golden Beach and Golden Beach, on the south-eastern coast of the island. The north wind blows regularly during the summer and waves coming from bias create ideal conditions.
Pounda Beach, on the strait between the Paros and Antiparos Islands, is an international kitesurfing spot and offers excellent conditions for all levels. Little more, there are no obstacles on the long sandy beach.
Rhodes

With 300 days of sun per year and strong lateral winds, Rhodes is one of the best Greek islands to make kitesurf and windsurfing. Theologos beach, near Rhodes airport, is fantastic for kiters of all levels, because the conditions allow them to jump many meters out of the water. In addition, it has new surf equipment rental shops. Other surf and windsurfing spots in Rhodes to consider are Prassonissi and Ixia, where the clear shore makes the learning of water sports fun and easy. On the west coast of Rhodes, the beach of Ialyssos offers excellent spots for the chalkists.
Karpathos

Far from mass tourism, Karpathos is certainly one of the best Greek islands for windsurfing and, therefore, kitesurfing. It’s an island where this sport is growing rapidly and it’s only been a few years since it was known to surfers around the world. The most popular beach for windsurfing in Karpathos is Afiartis. There are strong and hot winds in this region and some surf clubs have opened recently.
Kos

From noon to sunset, the summer wind makes Kos one of the best Greek islands for kitesurfing. The beach of Psalidi is an exceptional place for the practice of windsurfing in Kos, with regular sea winds in high season. To the southwest of the island is the most exposed place to the wind in Kos, Kefalos beach. Mastihari is also recognized as a water sports center with many centers along the beach. Windsurfing and kitesurfing equipment, courses and tips are available in all spots.
