Start discovering Colombia with its street food
Whether you’re in a large or small town, you’ll always find a street stand (cooking street food). This is called Colombia "walking" . You can discover the most sold dish in Colombia, the arepa . It will be declined in all forms with white corn flour or yellow flour. It is a mix of corn flour that is then mixed with water and salt ( masa ). The arepa is then handmade and flattened in a plastic sheet with the underside of a pan or something flat.

Then the bread will be served fried or in the oven. It’s less light but it’s much better. It can be served with a chorizo (regional sausage), morcilla (black pad) or a meat pike. You can also find grilled corn, or patacones de « platanos » (green bananas).

L’ arepa is one of the basics of Colombian food that is also found at breakfast ( desayuno ) to accompany him tinto (black coffee).
Then they can be filled with an egg ( arepa con huevo ) as on the Caribbean coast. You can add chopped meat, groaned chicken, etc... There is a variant for breakfast with queso costeño (dried cow cheese from the coast) served with hot chocolate. It is still served a lot of dishes like fish soups, and fried fish on the beaches to Barranquilla and Santa Marta.

Another dish served in Colombia is called a empanada made of corn flour a little like arepas and stuffed with potato and meat as on Bogota in particular. In Medellín, they stuff them with chorizo. They are then fried and served with a Aji (garniture based on on onion, tomato, chili, olive oil and cilentro - Coriander.

There are many Ambient who sells perros calientes (hot dogs) and hamburgesas which are not really Colombian but served generously with more Colombian trims like Dads French (frites), beans, corn, green salad, pickles, etc... He also sells chicharon , tamales , and mult regional dishes.

Finally, there are sellers of sweets like pineapple cut into cubes, mangoes with green lemon and salt or pepper. Mangoes are also served with concentrated sweet milk. He has salpicons fresh fruit (salade of fresh fruit with watermelons, pineapples, strawberries, etc...) street fruit vendors are the best ambassadors to make you discover the carambole , arbol tomato , guarambola and lulo , as well as fruit juices and granizados (on the Caribbean coast). The latter is a fresh fruit juice flowing on peeled ice.
