The Prora complex, which should have become the Third Reich holiday colony, is going to run into luxury resorts.
Located on Rügen Island (Baltic Sea) in Germany 300 km north Berlin , the Prora complex generates intense emotions. Its construction began in 1936 under the Nazi regime and today it seems that it was transformed into a luxury resort complex. Back to a piece of history some Germans would like to turn the page.
The Nazi project
It was in 1936 that the Prora complex began but the project never really saw the day. This project had to allow some 20,000 holidaymakers to benefit from summer holidays under the program of Adolf Hitler, “The Force by Joy”, with sea baths, gymnastics and Nazi endoctrination.
This complex is faithful to the ideology and Nazi architecture: 8 blocks strictly identical with 6 floors that face the sea on nearly 4.5 kilometers of beach. In 1939, the project was abandoned and the Prora complex became a barracks for the army of the Communist GDR. 50 years later, at the Fall of the Berlin Wall, the immense building was deserted and left to abandon.

Do we have to bring justice to the Nazi past?
The whole question is: should we keep this complex as it is, like a memory of an era to not forget? Or transform it and move forward?
During the 1990s and 2000, a few portions of the complex were subsequently used, including two museums (the place symbolizes the Nazi era and the communist era and the complex offers a great view of this time and German history) and in 2011, a youth hostel settled there.

A new era
Today, on the 8 blocks of origin, a block belongs to the regional government (he wishes to sell it), 2 blocks are in the hands of a foreign investor and another block has been completely shaved.
There are therefore 4 blocks that have been assigned to proponents who are tasked with transforming them by 2022. The story is omnipresent in the Prora complex and the real estate developers who have invested in this unusual building want to pay attention to it.
It is necessary to find a balance that can satisfy everyone: keep the memorial character and transform the place into a lucrative place. The Prora complex is no longer a ruin and the first occupants have just settled in this seaside resort that is terribly busy with history, in luxurious apartments that have been the result of a respectful rehabilitation of the place.
Now a part of the Prora complex has found a creamy color facade with its balconies and the interior is just as exciting: a burger restaurant, a spa, a bakery. Many dwellings are still to be filled in this huge building. Note, however, that the housing rate varies between 350,000 euros per 100 m2 up to 650,000 euros for a sea view.
