Hol Chan Reserve in Belize
This global reserve known for its biodiversity is often one of the must-see places to visit for ocean lovers. Here, no need to dive to discover a variety of incredible species of fish, corals, turtles, lamantins, rays, and even... sharks.
It was created in 1987 by the Government of Belize, especially thanks to the large shark community and some lamantins who live in its funds. It is a totally natural space, located off the coast of the islands of San Pedro or Caye Caulker. Hol Chan's natural reserve has four protected areas, including mangroves, coral barriers, but also and above all, an area where nanny sharks cohabit!
The sharks fed to Hol Chan
The only species of shark that populates the waters of Belize is the naughty shark: it does not pose any danger to Man. It feeds through the seabed mainly, including shrimp, small fish or coral.
The naughty shark has a small dorsal fin and can reach a length of three metres at adulthood. He's mainly moving in tape. It’s a lively shark that can spend up to 20 hours to sleep a day! There is therefore no problem to visit the Hol Chan reserve and your security will not be enclosed.
