Discovery of Lake Balaton, the small sea of Hungary
Hungary is mainly known for its sublime capital, Budapest , which, crossed by the Danube, is full of historical monuments and unusual activities. Yet, the country is also home to one of the largest lakes in Europe, which many Hungarians call the “Hungarian Sea”.
Located about 1h30 from Budapest by train, it is a very popular destination by the locals and travellers of all Europe for several reasons: whether you are culture, fierce, or adventure, Lake Balaton offers many opportunities.
The North Bank is an ideal destination for nature holidays and for outdoor holiday lovers: the city Tihany In particular, is a small village with traditional Hungarian architecture but also a natural park that houses many species of birds. You can hike on foot or by bike. In the city itself, the abbey of Tihany is a very famous monument in the region: it dates from the 11th century and now houses a museum.

A few kilometers away is the city Balatonfüred , ideal to taste what makes the reputation of Hungary: thermal resorts! Indeed, Balatonfüred has 7 mineral sources available for swimming, as well as spas.
The south shore is reserved for seaside resorts, especially the city of Siofok . It is a quiet city with beautiful beaches. Many Hungarians go there on the weekend. During the high season, it is very pleasant to swim in Lake Balaton, the water is quite cool, while temperatures can sometimes reach 35 degrees.
It is possible to connect the North and South shore by boat, especially from Tihany or Siofok, to avoid having to ride by car. However, walking around the lake by car or by bike can also be a good way to see the country: it takes about 250 kilometers and the roads are very well arranged.
