Where to put his suitcases outside Beijing, China? Discover the areas where to stay in Tianjin!
Fourth city of China after Shanghai , Beijing and Canton, Tianjin – or Tientsin – is an economic center of China symbolizing the fulgurance of the economic development of the Chinese model. Important city from the medieval era, Tianjin has abyssal proportions: 15.2 million inhabitants out of 11,920 km2 (the size of the Gironde plus Essonne). With Beijing, 120 kilometers away, it forms a vast conurbation (named Jing-Jin-Ji) of several hundred kilometers.
So much to say that there are several cities in the city and there are no places to stay in Tianjin. The difficulty will, however, be in the search for a neighbourhood where to sleep and what to do. Several Western countries once coveted this large port city by establishing commercial concessions, and as such, many Western buildings were built in the city, in the middle of today skyscrapers scaring almost the clouds. As a result, some neighbourhoods take air from cities in Europe.
Tianjin is divided into 16 administrative subdivisions named districts, and we can unfortunately not make an exhaustive presentation. We will therefore only list a few areas appreciated by tourists to sleep in Tianjing.
The Italian Quarter

And why not aim at the Italian quarter to stay in Tianjin? According to our sources, this is the best place to go. Located near the Haihe River, it will seduce all Western expatriates and tourists wishing to find a little bit of Europe in China. Victorian style architecture and its animation are the strengths of the neighbourhood, with restaurants, bars and shows where to attend concerts. Every day more than 5,000 foreign tourists flock to the main street, named Xiaojie (small street), full of ice-creams and western coffee.

Guwenhua Jie is the street of ancient culture, a district built according to traditional Chinese architecture. It is a shopping area, where you find everything to do your shopping or to buy multiple souvenirs (tea services, artisan figures – the Tianjin Niren – , calligraphy, etc.). Be careful here, the merchanting is legion. Modernity closes the old here, in the middle of buildings typical of the Quing period. The neighbourhood is very popular with local artists, cartoonists, portraitists and sculptors, traditional crafts. This is the place to stay in Tianjin for shopping. Nearby, the Tianjin Wenmiao Museum, and Yuhuang Pavilion and Palace of Queen of Heaven (Palais of the Queen of Paradise) will satisfy your desire for cultural outings.

Jiuba Jie Street

If you like to party – and yes, in China, it is possible also -, go to Jiuba Jie Street. This is the street where there is a high concentration of bars and nightclubs. Ali Baba Jiuba, right next to the University of Nankai (Nankai Daxue) is very busy. The “local fauna” is made of Westerners and Chinese students. There are the charms of Asia (and the voices that sing false also) in the many karaokes.
