Are you going to discover the charms of Morocco? You're lucky! Discover our guide to the best areas to stay in Tangier!
Located on the western cornice of the Strait of Gibraltar, the city of Tangier is the first major city of Morocco where millions of tourists arrive each year, only 14 kilometers from the Andalusian Spanish coast. Tangier has a Mediterranean climate with ocean influences – riding between the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean – and home to a population of one million inhabitants. It is the third city of Morocco after Casablanca and Fez . Finding accommodation in Tangier is easy because the offer of accommodations is wide: hotels, apartments and villas are spreading the streets of the city in large numbers. Tangier attracts more and more tourists and expatriates, between chic and cheap neighborhoods.
Tangier is nicknamed “the door of Europe”, “white” and “the North Star”. From the historic city centre to the new city, from the former Medina to the periphery, Tangier has many neighbourhoods. Here's where to stay in Tangier.
The old medina

The Medina offers a maze of colorful alleys dotted with bumps and charming residences, with an exceptional historical heritage. From the Place du Petit Socco, central, exhales a thousand and a scent in an explosion of bright colors. In the Medina, many traditional shops, cafés and restaurants attract visitors all year round. For example, enjoy a mint tea before going to the Grand Théâtre de Cervantes, at the Kasbah Museum – retracing the history of the taneroistic life, from the pre-Islamic period to the Roman era – or embarking a stroll along the Mercala beach road.
In the Grand Socco, the Tangier Cinematheque is a cinema with cafes and culture: concerts, films, plays, cultural events are on the programme. Through the Bab Bhar door, you will enjoy a superb view of the Strait and the city of Tangier with, in clear weather, a glimpse of the Spanish coast. By landing from the ferry to Morocco, it is an enchanting or even groubling area, but ideal for a first night to sleep in Tangier: the kasbah and the souks district is very close to the port.

Le boulevard

The Moroccans call it the “bulibard”. It is the long avenue of several kilometers along the Mediterranean Sea, east of the port. The boulevard begins at the Sour Al Maâgazine (the “faining wall”, nicknamed as this is where many badauds sit to stroll and rest). You will find everything you need to enjoy a stay in the modern Tangier: fashion shops, café terraces, restaurants, bars, glaciers, pastries, large buildings where to stay at home, banks and shops, etc.
The Tangerois like to take a walk from morning to night and all night. The neighbourhood is very alive until dawn. At the end of the boulevard, the Place des Nations (Sahat al Ommam) is the place of countless events: outdoor concerts, shows of all kinds, games for children, skatepark. If you want to stay in modern Morocco, this is where you have to stay in Tangier.

If after a shopping session in the Medina, you want to go to something else, relocate to the beach. It is the ideal place to swim in Tangier, to eat, to drink, to stroll along the beach and to attend many music concerts (blues, jazz, rock, Moroccan music). From the port to Malabata, you will find cafes, restaurants, clubs and discotheques where the young Tangerois and Tangeroises from privileged backgrounds come to celebrate. Being around the beach to stay in Tangier: the nec plus ultra when you're young!
