Did you think of the Icelandic capital for your holidays? Okay, but where to sleep? Here are the best areas to stay in Reykjavik!
Located at 64° north latitude, the city of Reykjavik is the most northern capital of the world, and has a subpolar climate comparable to that of southern Greenland or Patagonia. Just tell you that it will be fresh! Renting an apartment or a hotel to stay in Reykjavik will be expensive, but Iceland, where one goes for its breathtaking nature or its northern lights, it is worth a visit. With only 121,230 inhabitants, Reykjavik is a colorful, human-sized capital, whose population is known for its hospitality.
Reykjavik is not a big city, but it has many advantages to seduce its visitors, that is, you, whatever your tastes. To help you better organize your stay, the Wanderlix redac’ has concocted a mini-guide of the neighborhoods where to sleep in Reykjavik.

To stay in Reykjavik, nothing like renting accommodation in the city centre, where everything can be done on foot while enjoying the best "spots" worth of interest. Within it is the main artery of the Icelandic capital, Laugavegur Street. By walking around this street, you will find many shops, bars, restaurants, museums and souvenir shops. Everything is next to it and the neighborhood offers for all tastes: cultural visits, shopping, party. For this is where the young Reykjaviks and Reykjaviks meet for party Friday and Saturday nights.
The port, north of the neighborhood, is the emblematic place of the city where fishermen are active from the foundation to the 10th century of the city by the Vikings. You will see the famous Drakkar, and the Harpa, illuminated at night. Further to the south, the Lutheran Church Hallgrímskirkja – which can be climbed to the top to enjoy a breathtaking view of the city – is an immanquable while the street Skólavörðustígur is the lair of the musicians in the café-concerts. A good neighborhood where to sleep, between authenticity and modernity, because in addition, the vast majority of hotels are concentrated. On the budget side, the wallet must be well-stocked to rent housing.

Family atmosphere guaranteed to stay in Reykjavik on the shores of Lake Tjörnin, west of downtown. There you will find yourself to stroll and observe the ducks, gulls, geese or swans that barbotage in the cold waters of the lake. The area offers a tranquillity setting between Lake Tjörnin and the large Hljómskálagarður park. Here again, it is a popular neighborhood in an already expensive city: sleeping in Tjörnin will be expensive, so it is better to go to several.
