For your holidays, you set the course on Thailand? We present you the best places to stay on the island of Phuket!
Phuket – to be pronounced “poor” – is a southern province of Thailand, mostly composed of Ko Phuket Island, connected to the continent by the Sarasin Bridge. It is the largest Thai island in the Andaman Sea, located west of the Malay Peninsula. Peupled by 525,018 inhabitants (2010), 21% of its population also consists of expatriates, with 115,881 foreign inhabitants, spread over 536 km2. Finding accommodation is very easy in Phuket (resorts, bungalows, hostels, hotels) but besides the city, you also have to choose its season because the price of the accommodation can double from November to January during the dry season and adjust to the decrease from May to September during the wet season.
The province is globally known for its mass tourism, its heavenly beaches of white sand and fine lined with coconut trees, its turquoise waters and its dream tropical climate with an average of 28°C throughout the year. It is also these attributes that make it one of Thailand’s most tourist destinations, which can take a “amusement park” or “tourist factory” side away from authentic Thailand. If these negative points do not supplant the majestic landscapes in your eyes, here is a mini-guide far from being exhaustive to help you choose where to sleep in Phuket.

Near the airport, Mai Khao is the first village crossed during an incursion on the island. The swimming is unfortunately dangerous throughout the year, but the advantage is that the locality is less tourist than on the beaches of the southwest. It is a good place to stay in Phuket if you leave with a couple or with a family and if you don’t like the beaches where you can go to the dawn, because the environment is rather family, a little neglected by tourists.

Here is a six-kilometre long beach a few minutes from the city of Cherng Talay. The northern part of the beach is still relatively preserved from mass tourism: it may be that you have the beach for yourself in hollow times! However, there is no other thing to do than to keep on the edge of the water, go to the bar and eat at the restaurant: from farniente to pure state! Numerous luxurious hotels enclose the beach with traditional tourist services (piscines, restaurants, massages). Choose this area if you're looking for calm.

Kamala and Karon

Located north of the Patong tumultuous and sulphurous, Kamala Beach is a three-kilometre band lined with sugar palms, coconut trees and pines. It is one of the most remarkable places in Phuket, with its grandiose bay, and its fishing village still active: a piece of authenticity in the temple of tourism. If you choose this beach where to stay in Phuket, many restaurants are there to hang out in the beachfront, and you will find a lot of bars in the main street. Finding accommodation in Kamala is a good compromise between agitation and rest.

Beach resort on the west coast of the island of Phuket, Patong is the best place to stay in Phuket if you are young, noctambule and healthy. It is also the most touristic city of Phuket. Actually, Nightlife there is debriefing and the city is full of tourists all year round, especially during the dry season (November to March). The advantage is that the population grows on the seaside and you can climb the mountains to find yourself in the middle of nature, green and quiet.
