It is crossed on its northern flanks, on the A7 motorway which it bypasses: the « Porte du Soleil » announces the Midi provençal and is the nickname given to the commune of Montélimar. The city centre is the district where the densest population is met, most tourist monuments and the vibrant heart of social activity. It is recommended that you target the city centre to stay in Montélimar because the city is not very large and you can do everything on foot.
If you come there for tourism, do not miss the castle of the Adhémar – built in the 12th century by one of the richest families of the Dauphiné, now home to a contemporary art centre – the public garden – a lung of greenery in the city, created in 1856, offering tranquility and serenity – and the museum of the city of Montélimar (many collections of history, arts, local traditions, ethnology and craftsmanship). As always in the city centre, there is the highest concentration of bars, cafes and restaurants: glean the best terraces where to taste local specialties, including honey and nougat, the city’s must-have sweet emblem.
