Italian port city located west of the Tuscan coast, Livorno is an important crossing point for tourists going to Corsica and Sardinia. Located between Piombino south and south La Spezia to the north, the ancient historical heritage of its coast is so rich that it is sometimes nicknamed the "Côte des Etrusques". Yet for a long time in the shadow of the tedious Pisa, Florence and Lucca, Livorno remained a small village of popular fishermen before developing around its port during the Republic of Pisa. Today, Livorno has nearly 160,000 inhabitants, is worldwide known for the quality of its fish and seafood, and also becomes a top tourist destination in Italy.

Most accommodations are located in the old town to stay in Livorno. Former fishing village of the Tyrrhenian coastline, the “Little Venice” does not have to rogue its charms. Here is a presentation of the areas where to sleep in Livorno.

The area nicknamed the “Little Venice” deserves a look. This neighborhood stretches northwest of the Grand Place de la République ( Piazza della Repubblica ). It is surrounded by canals houses a large density of historic buildings and attests to its industrial and maritime past. The neighborhood Comeia is described as the most picturesque and interesting neighborhood to visit. It extends from Fortezza Vecchia (old fortress) to the Fortezza Nuova (the new fortress).

Numerous bars and restaurants line the docks and streets of the neighborhood. Few hotels, on the other hand, to stay in the Petite Venice, but an alternative accommodation solution is to stay in the home. The main street of the neighborhood – via Borra – is one of the immanquables of Livorno.

To the south of the neighborhood is a part of the more modern city: the port and residential areas. Around the port you will find most of the contemporary shopping malls and various shopping centers, which will be ideal for those who have shopping to do. Accommodation in Livorno near the port can take a practical side if you have a ferry to take the next day early, to go to Corsica, Sicily or Sardinia. Do not miss the monument of the Four Maures ( Quattro Mori .

Similarly, a walk on the Via Grande takes place in the district of the new city: it is the main axis of the city. The buildings are modern because they reflect the bombings of the Second World War from 1943. The area extends between the port and the Piazza della Repubblica . Piazza Grande and the Cathedral – Duomo di San Francesco – act as the heart of town. Along the Via Gaetano d’Alesio, south of the harbour, there are many international cuisine restaurants. The good news is that hotels in this part of the city are relatively affordable to stay in Livorno.
