The second largest city in the Valencian Community located southeast of Spain, Alicante enjoys a mild Mediterranean climate in winter and warm in summer. Downtown

The centre – El casco antiguo say the premises – is the historic district. We get there by the Place de la Mairie – Plaza del Ayuntamiento - a majestic baroque-style building inaugurated in 1780. Plaza Abad Penalva is the Cathedral of San Nicolás, built on the ruins of a mosque dating from the Muslim era. Calle Labradores will be your den to enjoy a good drink or a meal on the terrace. The historic centre focuses a plurality of multisecular historical buildings, witnesses of over-year civilizations. “El Paseo de la Explanada” – the Esplanade of Spain – is the favourite place for the locals: craft markets, shops, bars, restaurants with a loss of sight but also shows and plays: what to delight small and large.

In addition, the alleys in the city centre are festive thanks to the many bars and restaurants on the street. For example, the Rambla Méndez Núñez is a street where to go out to party, go shopping and discover the Plaza de Toros and the Plaza de España (Plaza de España). To swim, fail on the beach of Postiguet, very popular and frequented. For more calm, you will have to get away from the city centre to San Juan, in the northeast. Santa Cruz

Here is a beautiful, popular, colorful and very touristy area of Alicante. It is built between the historic centre and the San Antón district. Flower balconies, yellow-dyed bays, bright white ochres and red, it is also called El Barrio because it is one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Alicante. You can visit the Basilica of Santa Maria – the oldest church in the city, built in the 14th century – and you can enjoy many small bars to take a drink or eat tapas.

In the area, you can satisfy your desires for cultural visits by discovering the Musée d’art contemporain d’Alicante (Maca), where many local artists are exhibited and the masterpieces of monuments of Spanish culture: Miro, Picasso, Dalí. To be at the first lodges of the groubling activity of the city without taking public transport, it is a very good area where to stay in Alicante.
