How to get from Lisbon to Porto?

To visit Portugal, a city is essential: Porto. Here is our guide to different transport to Porto from Lisbon!

You have visited Lisbon And you wonder how to go to Porto from Lisbon? The second city of Portugal – Porto – is 310 kilometres north of the capital. Four means of transport are used to connect the two cities: the bus, the train, the car and the plane. Here's how to do it.

Bus

The main Portuguese bus company is called Rede Expressos . You will embark on modern and air-conditioned buses, well maintained. There are twenty daily departures for Porto from the Lisbon bus station and the journey will take between 3h30 (line 50) and 4h30 (line 11). A simple way to go to Porto from Lisbon will cost 19 € per adult, 9 € per child and 15 € for the elderly. It is possible to buy your tickets online on the company official website but note that you cannot buy your ticket on board: without internet connection, go to the bus station of Sete Rios de Lisbon (subway station "Jardim Zoológico" of the blue line). The terminus in Porto is located at the bus station Garagem Atlantico . To go to Porto from Lisbon, we took the bus, one of the most economical solutions.

Train

You can go to Porto from Lisbon by train, but it will be much more expensive. From Lisbon, trains will depart from the train station Lisboa Santa Apolonia . The trains are chartered by the national company Comboios de Portugal and tickets must be, as in France, purchased online or at the ticket office before boarding. Two types of trains are available: the Alfa Pendular trains (count 2h30) and the Intercidades (count 3 hours). In each direction, there are 14 daily departures: choose your schedule. Count from 30 € to 42 € (normal class and comfort) for Alfa Pendular trains and between 24 € and 36 € for Intercidades trains. In Porto, you will arrive at Campanha train station, east of the city. A second train must be taken to the centre, at the train station in Sao Bento (only 10 minutes).

Car

How to get from Porto to Lisbon with a car for rent? Rent a car in Lisbon will be simple, but be careful to check all rental conditions (insurance, franchise, mileage, etc.). In Portugal, toll roads can be expensive. This is the least economical way, but you will have time to radiate in the landscapes of the centre-Portugal (Torres Vedras, Lourinha, Obidos Nazaré, Coimbra ).

Aircraft

We can go to Porto from Lisbon by plane with flights from 10 € or 20 €. The airlines operating this link are Ryanair and TAP Portugal. The flight from Lisbon to Porto will last for an hour, but it is also necessary to add time for check-in of baggage and to pass the safety ports, plus boarding.
