Reviews for Flixbus - Cheap Bus Treats
In recent years, new modes of transport to travel across France and Europe have developed. With carpooling, the bus has become an excellent alternative to the aircraft and train, especially for small budgets.
Want to join a friend for a weekend or holidays? Visit a European capital? Whether planned or at the last minute, think about the Flixbus network that offers a less expensive bus ticket offer.
These green and orange buses that cross the roads are now very successful.
But then what is behind Flixbus? How does it work? What are the advantages and disadvantages of this means of transport? Let us discover together how Flixbus makes millions of Europeans travel at small prices.
What is Flixbus?
With the end of the railway monopoly in 2013, Flixbus was created in Munich by three young entrepreneurs. Their desire was to accelerate travellers’ mobility in Europe at low cost rates. This solution, alternative to other modes of transport such as car, train or aeroplane, today transports millions of people.
First leader in the German market, Flixbus has gradually developed its network in Europe (France, England, Italy, Spain...) and wants to be ecological, comfortable and accessible to all.
Success is based on the use of the fully connected Flixbus platform. Via the site or free smartphone app, register and access the booking and ticketing system for free. Other advantages: free wi-fi on board and GPS tracking of buses in real time.
The start-up now has 1,000 employees throughout Europe and thousands of bus drivers.
This is to date more than 2000 destinations and 29 related countries.
How does it work?
Connection and booking
Simply connect to www.flixbus.fr or via the free mobile app. You can book a ticket and pay directly online or register and create an account with an email address or your Facebook pseudo. It’s very intuitive!
There is also, in France, a shop in Paris and Lyon for those who prefer to travel for the reservation of their ticket.
Then organize your trip by simply entering your departure city and destination. The platform will suggest you specify your departure dates and the number of passengers. A filter system will allow you to refine your search according to the desired route type.
The details of your trip then appear on the Flixbus interface with duration, correspondence and price. You just have to choose what’s best for you!
Also, if you travel in the last minute, you also have the opportunity to buy your ticket directly to the bus driver (Subject to availability on D-Day) but at the normal rate that is to say without the internet discount.
Baggage and seating places
Like most current means of transport, Flixbus also offers optional insurance and the possibility to carry additional baggage at a cost. However, you can take a 7 kg free hand luggage and a 20 kg bag already included in the fare.
If you are traveling with children at a low age, think about taking a proper seat as they are mandatory on the buses for their safety. You can carry a pushchair free of charge but you must report it by phone 48 hours before. Also for wheelchairs. You also have the option to take large objects such as bicycles, skis or musical instruments at an additional cost to indicate at the time of your payment subject to the space available on the bus.
Finally, if you travel with family or several, as with the train, also think about booking your seats in order to be sitting together. There are several categories of seats for your comfort. And in the double-floor buses, you can opt for seats with a table in the middle, ideal when travelling with children for example.
Cancellation
With Flixbus, it is possible to change your mind. Thus, you can cancel a reservation or change it up to 15 minutes before departure. Know that for cancellation, there are additional fees.
Good to know:
-You have the opportunity to travel via the night bus to save time. Indeed, at night there is less traffic and less intermediate stops.
-If you are looking for reduced fares, do not hesitate to download the free Flixbus application as it offers exclusive promo codes allowing you to lower the price of your trip.
-On some buses you can enjoy the free platform Flixtainment which offers games, movies or music. Once connected to the Wi-Fi Flixbus network, you will need to open media.flixbus.com.

Flixbus: editorial advice
Flixbus is a good alternative to the train and the car to travel less in France and throughout Europe. The reservation platform and free application is intuitive and very easy to use. The Wi-fi on board is also top, especially for long journeys. In our view, this travel option is especially reserved for travellers alone or in small groups of friends or for couples. For families with several children, for example, the bus seems to be a less suitable option because the routes are longer and the delays more frequent. It is also appreciated to track real-time journeys, which allows to monitor delays or changes in stops and to reassure relatives. So, in 3 clicks, sleep in France and wake up in Italy or Spain!
