Elephant Rock: this rock in Iceland has the shape of an elephant

On the island of Heimaey, in Iceland, a rock strangely reminds a giant elephant soaking its trumpet in the sea

This basalt cliff by the sea on the island Heimaey in the south of Iceland like a giant elephant dripping his trumpet in the sea.

Heimaey is the largest island in the Vestmannaeyjar archipelago (or Vestmann Islands ), a set of geologically young islands formed by volcanoes. Eldfell, a volcano on Heimaey, broke out in 1973, inciting the inhabitants to pump the cold water of the sea on the lava flows, which threatened to destroy the port which is the life of the village and its inhabitants, to make them cool, shaping without wanting the immense rock in the form of pachyderm.

L’ Elephant Rock , which is found on the coast of this island and which attracts many visitors is also formed from the volcanic basalt that is found everywhere on this island.
