Parking in Rome: pay attention to the ZTL!

If you have already visited Italy, you have probably already heard of ZTL ( Zona a Traffico Limitato ). Indeed, the "limited traffic zones" are present in the majority of major Italian cities, becoming the nightmare of tourists who seek to circulate and park in Rome. This area has the peculiarity of prohibiting non-residents from driving without being allowed, otherwise station at fine. In the city centre, for example, driving is prohibited from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday to Friday, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturdays and from 11:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

- Places with one white line are all the more rare because they are completely free. So if you cross one, especially enjoy it! Be careful, for these places are often taken by the scooters, who reign over the eternal city.

- Places with one blue line are paid, usually from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., or until 11:00 p.m. in the most central areas such as Campo Marzio, Celio, Ludovisi or Trastevere. The cost depends on the area where you are, but the rates will range between €1.20 per hour in ZTL and €1 excluding ZTL.

- Places with one yellow line are strictly prohibited because reserved for persons with disabilities, deliveries or politicians.

If you do not find where to park in Rome, however, it is possible to park along the Tiber on the Longotevere. The places are paid but you will be close to everything. As a bonus, those who will have the chance to find a place to the Jardin des Orangers or the Roseraie will have a magnificent view of the city.

Cheap car park in Rome: good plans

In Rome there are different parking spaces. Those in the city centre are parks monitored but with a very limited number of places. Their advantage? Their proximity to the city centre and the possibility of walking there, such as parking of Villa Borghese , the parking lot of the Gianicolo and the parking lot of Piazza Cavour. Count around €2.20 per hour but there are subscriptions for the day between 18 and 25€.

To find cheap parking in Rome, you have to leave the heart of the city and park nearby public transport. All car parks are located near metro lines A and B or next to bus lines. For 12h, count between 1.50 and 2€ and for 16h, between 2.50 and 3€. The parking Anagnina, located east of Rome, is one of them.
