Cheap car park in Prague: where to park in Prague?

If you come to Prague by car or if you rent one, it is important to know where the cheap car park is in Prague and where to park.

Are you coming to Prague by car? Or do you think you are staying more than 3 days in Prague and want to access certain tourist or natural sites, located around the city and in Bohemia? In this case, using public transport may limit your possibilities and having a car, whether rented or not, may become interesting.

Whether you have your own car or rent one, the parking question will arise: where to park in Prague? What are the best car parks? Where to find cheap parking in Prague?

Parking in Prague: park in the street by paying

There are 2 parking areas in Prague:

  • Resident areas : they are materialized by a blue strip in front of the parking spaces. Reserved for city residents, you do not have the right to park on these places. Your car will be furnaceed and you will have to pay a fine of 2,500 CZK (100€).
  • Areas equipped with parking meters: The color of the area is indicated at the bottom of the reporting panel with duration, times and days.
    • Orange area: you can park up to 6 hours. The price varies between 15 and 30 CZK per hour.
    • Green zone: you can park only up to 2 hours. The price is 40 CZK per hour.

To park in the street by paying is therefore not the best solution. We advise you to avoid the city centre to park or to travel, public transport is much more convenient and affordable.

Cheap car park in Prague: park in the street for free

If you don’t want to pay to park in Prague, a second option is to park your car out of paid parking areas, then take public transport to the city centre.

There are free-station zones in the suburbs. For example, it is possible to park for free around the station Nové Butovice , in the residential neighborhoods around.

On weekends it is possible to park for free in Prague 5 or Prague 6, just make sure to respect the blue areas reserved for residents. Panels indicate whether the street is free on weekends or not: « Po – Pa » means that from Monday to Friday parking is paid ( « Po – So » = Monday to Saturday).

Let us now turn to the best solutions to park in Prague: public transport parking or paid parking.

Parking in Prague in cheap parking

The best and cheapest solution when you want to park in Prague is to choose "Park & Ride" or "P+R". Most are kept, but not all are covered.

They are located near the most remote metro stations in the city: Skalka, Zličín, Nové Butovice, Opatov, Chodov, Ládví, Rajská zahrada, Černý most, Palmovka, Nádraží Holešovice.

They are open between 4am and 1am. In fact, you are supposed to stay at least 12 hours, for 20 CZK per day (0.80€). You have a parking ticket to put behind your windshield, and you have to buy and keep a metro ticket until you leave the car park.

If you do not recover your car the same day, you will have to pay a fine of 100 CZK as well as parking for two days, 140 CZK. What comes back to 184 CZK (a fine + day price + metro ticket) or less than 8€ per day.

This is the cheapest way to park in Prague this week. On weekends, we recommend you park in Prague 5 or 6. You can visit the Prague public transport site to learn more about the P+R parking . It also indicates the current capacity of P+R car parks.

Parking in Prague in a paid indoor parking

The other solution is to choose a paid parking in the center, the prices are higher in general (50 CZK per hour and 650 CZK per day) and you are not sure to have a place. They are still covered and kept.
