The Marine Organs of the artist Nikola Bašić in Zadar, Croatia, offer a natural music concert.
Who has never enjoyed walking along the sea and listening to the slamming of waves on the rocks? A natural energy that makes good, relaxes... It is with the idea of creating this feeling of appeasement that Croatian architect Nikola Bašić has developed his project called “the sea organ of Zadar”. Located along the Adriatic Sea, this architect’s work is an enchanting collaboration between the forces of nature and humanity...
In fact, close to the new shipyard, along the recognizable concrete coastline thanks to its large steps plunging into the sea, have been installed a little more than 30 pipes, of different length and size, on which several whistles were placed releasing 7 chords and 5 tones. This unusual installation therefore mobilizes the energy of the winds and the Adriatic Sea to create soothing and harmonized random notes.
This place has been open to tourists and passers-by since 2005 and has been increasing its number of visitors. Close by, another work by the same artist, Greetings to the Sun is also to be seen. Today considered a popular place where it is good to live, which has not always been the case in this place, the marine organ of Nikola Bašić gave this ancient concrete coastline, previously left to abandon, a second breath, a new life!
The know-how and good ideas of man associated with natural phenomena have made this place a place of relaxation, reflection, but also the mark for all lovers of music who can attend a permanent concert thanks to this majestic orchestra that is nature! A project that was also rewarded because Nikola Bašić was awarded the European Public Space Development Award in 2006 for this unusual installation, in front of 207 projects from all over Europe.
