A loop to visit the South of Madagascar

A perfect two-week loop to discover the West and visit the great South of Madagascar!

The South Madagascar is the destination with facets to pass passengers on the red island. Unique tourism sites in the world and breathtaking landscapes will not fail to marvel in this vast region of Madagascar. To guide you, here is a circuit idea to make a perfect loop through the West, the South-West and the South of the Great Island in 15 days.

Who speaks of the South of Madagascar, suggests the discovery of the Isalo massif and then Toliary, which has one of the longest coral barrier in the world. This southern town of Mada is home to Ifaty, one of the most beautiful seaside resorts on the big island.

To make a perfect loop in the South without going back through the roads you’ve passed, you first have to go to Antsirabe . Enjoy your passage through the city of water to make the full energy. The road may be quite long and hard. After a hot water treatment, head west.

On the way, take photos of the vast rice fields of Betafo. Then join Miandrivazo to embark on the barge that will lead you along the river Tsiribihina to Belo on Tsiribihina. From there, will start the unusual landscapes of western Madagascar. Large sand banks occupy the banks of the river. Let's go, hoops, ducks to work here. In the savannahs will gradually scroll, the first baobabs, the maki playgrounds.

In Morondava, a poorly maintained road leads to Bekopaka. Make a detour to discover the small Tsingy and the great Tsingy of Bemaraha, these diaclases with breathtaking panoramas that make Madagascar's reputation. Pedal circuits of different levels will allow you to cross large savannas, mysterious caves and secondary forests decorated with beautiful orchids. You will also have the opportunity to see the sifaka (lemurs catta) and the fosa (renard) live free. On the way back, take pictures to remember the famous Baobabs alley.

Then take the initial route to the south to reach Toliara. On the way, you will pass through Belo-sur-Mer, a small village that houses the largest building site in the big island. From Andavadoaka starts a beautiful track that runs along the beautiful beaches of the Mozambique Canal. Some of them have never known the traces of Man. Admirable coves, centenary baobabs and filao forests march next to the road. They decorate the landscape joyfully and seem to greet visitors.

Various land and water activities await you in Salary. Portuguese and English ship wrecks await your visit to the seabed. On the way, visit the Mikeas Forest, a tribe that lives in complete isolation, without any contact with modern civilization. A hundred kilometers from this village, the passage of the beautiful beaches of Ifaty tells you that the town of Toliara and the asphalt road is nearby.

To finish the loop, borrow RN7 and cross the tower massif of Isalo with its landscapes identical to those of Western, its atypical tombs and its unmissable national park. It is the main attraction of travellers to Madagascar. During your stopovers in Fianarantsoa, Antoetra, Ambositra and Antsirabe, don’t forget to buy the atypical handicraft items from the know-how of the local population. Good trip!
