Some cities in South Europe through their windows
Anywhere in the world, the doors and the windows are seldom paid attention. Yet, by raising eyes in the streets of the cities, the inhabitants have sometimes given a bit of cheer. Being only a way to aerate their room for some, it is also a way for others to see what happens outside and to mislead the often sad facades of the buildings.
Portuguese photographer André Vicente Gonçalves has the eye to notice these atypical windows. It also has the eye to assemble them together, like the pieces of a puzzle, to create beautiful inspiring mosaics. Indeed, this photographer chose to make discover the cities in which he travels by focusing only on the windows of the homes.
As a philatelist does for his stamps, André will collect the windows according to their shapes and colours and gather them together. “I’ve always had a curiosity for the windows. Like the structure of the houses, they change from region to region and [the project] "Windows of the World" was born; a great evolution from the first windows that were only a hole in a wall .
