Have you ever wondered where the place on your desktop photos could be? Have you ever wanted to dive into the perfectly blue waters of your wallpaper? Well, you'll finally know where they were taken! Far from home anyway...

You always thought it was : Somewhere Ireland

This is in fact : from Sonoma, California. The original image of the Windows XP office, generally known in the world of technology as “Bliss”, was taken in 1996 on a road that crosses California’s wine country (the photographer claims that the photo was never digitally modified). Vines have since been planted on the emblematic hill.

This is in fact : Antelope Canyon. At about three hours' drive to the Grand Canyon, Antelope is popular with hikers.

This is in fact : Mont Rainier, Washington State, United States . With 25 large glaciers, immersing lakes, and landscapes with the endless fields of wild flowers, the area around Mount Rainier is one of the favorite national parks of Americans.

This is in fact : from a small town as you could see everywhere in the United States, but this one is at home Canada . This is Burlington, Ontario, in Canada.

You always thought it was : the Sahara Desert

This is in fact : from a place that may not exist at all. Computers are quick to notice that the moon is upside down on this image, a hint that suggests that Photoshop was used here. If the dunes are real, however, one can think that they are strongly similar to those of Sossusvlei, the clay pan in the Desert of Namib in South Africa (in contrast to the Sahara therefore).

You always thought it was : the coast of Norway, the day before a summer

This is in fact : from Pyramid Lake in Nevada, one night of 2004. This lake served as a default wallpaper for the first iPad edition.

This is in fact : from a place probably somewhere in the Caribbean. The place where the Windows XP wallpaper “Azul” has been taken, could be judged with other photos, near Antigua or the Cayman Islands, which both swim in the crystalline blue water of the ocean.

This is in fact : Foamhenge , an attraction along the road made of polystyrene in the mountains of Virginia in the USA. No, it's a joke, it’s Stonehenge !
