What to do in Iceland: ideas to spend a few days of total change

Through wild landscapes composed by volcanoes, glaciers, lava fields, black sand beaches and geothermal zones, Iceland certainly offers you the total disbursement only three hours from Paris. A destination that is still too little known to tourists, find out what to do in Iceland.

Do you need a good dose of change but no time to go far and long? Know that there is a three-hour flight from Paris, a country that has what to offer you the top of the disbursement and that will give you a full view of it, it is Iceland . This island state with a very marked Viking identity is ideal for a short stay of 3 or 4 days, including its capital, Reykjavik which is a treasure of hospitality and cultural attractions.

Reykjavik, one of Europe’s most welcoming capitals

The Icelandic capital is amazing because it has several faces, in a small perimeter, you can walk around the city . At least spend a day surveying, a thousand things to discover!

Culture in Reykjavik :

- The curiosity of the city is probably its church , Hallgrímskirkja , at the vertiginous height, which will often help you to spot you. It is possible to climb to the top, which will offer you an extraordinary panorama over the whole city and its surroundings, magical.

- The Art Museum of Contemporary Art : Reykjavik contains a number of museums, to be chosen of course according to your interests, they range from the Viking History Museum, the Icelandic National Museum and even the Icelandic Phallological Museum, to be selected according to your tastes so... One of the most worthy of interest is the contemporary art museum, which presents the avant-garde Icelandic art. A board, don’t spend your day in museums, it’s interesting to visit one or two of them, but the city’s interest is mostly outside.

Visit the city on foot, places of interest

- The port : Longing the harbour is a very nice ride, with its huge fishing boats, and glaciers far away is a unique place. If you go to the bay of Reykjavik, you can admire the famous sculpture "the Sun Traveler" or "Solfar" that overlooks the bay. In this place, some lucky people could have admire the Northern Lights , when the season and weather permit. Do not miss the mythical hot-dog stand, located at the port entrance. The hot dogs served here are known throughout the city and prove to be really tasty, with this cold, a hot snack is never bad!

- The heart of the city : Walk in the few streets of the city center, to admire the beautiful showcases, the magnificent graffiti on the walls and the beauty of this urban landscape, so quiet, quiet and clean. It’s more like walking in a village than in a capital as the atmosphere is serene. Buy yourself a coffee to take away and taste it on the edges of the beautiful Lake Tjörnin. Located in the centre of the city, where swans and ducks cohabit, with the colorful facades of the small houses all around, it is a typical Scandinavian and enchanting landscape that offers to you. Stop in one of these charming little coffee-shops, where you will enjoy excellent burgers, cakes and coffee, in very cozy atmospheres, the Laundromat Café is among the best addresses.

But Iceland has many other tours in its bag, such as the uniqueness of its campaigns, so it is absolutely necessary to foresee at least one day out of Reykjavik.

- The Golden Circle : In the tourist office you will find numerous offers of excursions to discover the Icelandic landscapes. The greatest thing is that of Cercle d’Or , where in a radius of 300 km around Reykjavik, you can admire geysers, cascades, lunar landscapes, fields and sheep with a loss of sight. It is absolutely grandiose and unforgettable.

- Iceland Airwaves Festival : One of the best times to get to Iceland is between October and November, before the very big cold. A music festival is held every year in Reykjavik in early November, Iceland Airwaves and brings a wind of light madness to the city, while keeping an amazing calm, benevolent and secure climate. More and more known, it takes place everywhere, from the smallest cafes to the great Harpa showroom. You can attend many small intimate concerts throughout the city without a pass-festival.

What memories do Iceland bring?

You will be spoiled for the choice, as the shops are very attractive in Reykjavik. If you like clothes, don't leave without your traditional Icelandic knitted sweater, you will be bet to face the most polar colds.

Icelandic herbs are known for their medicinal virtues, you will find tisane or cosmetics with very surprising herbs. Don’t hesitate to buy the famous hot dog sauce in the super-market, not found in France and delicious. More difficult to report, don’t forget to taste the famous skyr yogurt very consistent and fresh, it is part of Icelandic specialties not to miss.
