The Palace of Regaleira, also known as the Quinta de la Regaleira , is one of Sintra’s most famous and surprising monuments. The property belonged to the Baroness of Regaleira, daughter of a rich merchant of the city of Porto. António Augusto Carvalho Monteiro, nicknamed Monteiro the millionaire for his immense fortune, acquired the property in 1892. This Brazilian scientist and naturalist born of Portuguese parents visits Luigi Manini to build a palace and draw a garden. The famous Italian architect, creator of the magnificent Buçaco Palace, will create this magical place that became the Palace of Regaleira.

You can observe many Masonic symbols when you go to the Palace of Regaleira. The municipality of Sintra bought the property in 1997 following the ranking of the city with UNESCO World Heritage in 1995.

To book your ticket online, go to the official website of the palace. Tickets are valid 120 days from the date of purchase. Online tickets are not not available for guided tours.

How to get to the Regaleira Palace in Sintra?

The exact address of the monument is Quinta de la Regaleira, 2710-567 Sintra, Portugal. To visit the Palace of Regaleira, you will first have to go to Sintra. The easiest thing is to combine your visit to Sintra with a stay in Lisbon. From Lisbon, there are several options available to you:

  • By car: lA16 will take you from Lisbon to Sintra in about 35 minutes. Count another 10 minutes if you want a toll-free route. The estate is located west of Sintra, on the road N375.
  • By train: from Rossio train station in the centre of Lisbon, the journey will take about 45 minutes. This is the most convenient way to get to Sintra. In addition, the round-trip train ticket costs less than 5€.

From the train station or downtown Sintra, bus 435 will allow you to reach and visit the Palace of Regaleira. The line operates a loop that allows you to visit other monuments of the city, such as the Sintra National Palace, the Seteais Palace and the Monserrate Palace. In addition, tickets allow you to ride and get off the bus for a day.

There is no dedicated parking to visit the Palace of Regaleira. If you are by car, we advise you to park by car downtown then take it bus 435 .
