Make the unmissable ascent of the famous Pain de Sucre called locally “Pão de Açúcar” during your stay in Rio de Janeiro!
View of the ridge Sugar bread Rio is undoubtedly the most beautiful city in the world. The ascent of the mountain is worth the blow at several times of the day, but the sunset in clear weather is the best time.
The name Pain de Sucre appeared in the 16th century. Its name would be due to its very particular form evoking the refined sugar blocks and placed in clay mussels to be transported by boat from the trade of the sugar cane. It was the Portuguese who gave him that name.

A visit to Pão de Açúcar is essential, but if you can, avoid going around 10-11 hours and 14-15 hours, when most tourist buses arrive. Avoid cloudy days as well. Two cable cars connect the top, culminating at 396m above Rio. The first climbs the first 220 meters to Morro da Urca. From here you can see the Baía de Guanabara (Baie de Guanabara) and the sinuous coastline: on the ocean side of the mountain you find the Praia Vermelha . Morro da Urca has its own restaurant, souvenir shops, a playground, an outdoor theatre and a heliport (helicopter tours are possible).

The second cable car climbs to the famous Sugar bread (Pão de Açúcar). At the top, the city unfolds under your feet, with to the west the mountain of Corcovado and its Cristo Redentor , and the beach of Copacabana and the premises in bathing suit south. If the breathtaking heights give you vertigo, a kiosk serves drinks like drinks caipirinha or cerveja (bearing). Mechanical lifts start every 20 minutes.
