History of Krka National Park

The region that sees the Krka River is an exceptional natural area, rich in prehistoric traces and centuries-old historical monuments. We can attest to the presence of the Man on site from the paleolithic: silex, fragments and bone fragments were found in the area.

The Roman presence requires the construction of an aqueduct, that of Skradin, and the ruins of the Burnum camp. Later, with the expansion of Christianity, one decided to build a sumptuous place of worship. It is the Franciscan church of Visovac which was built on an island in the middle of the river.

The Krka National Park also houses ruined Turkish fortresses, testifying to the Ottoman occupation. What to see and what to do at Krka National Park?

Once in the Krka National Park, get ready to take the mirettes! Start your visit with a nice walk along the marked path that will lead you in front of you the ancient aqueduct of Skradin . Skradin, whose name corresponds to the Roman province of Scardona!

You will have the opportunity to see the monastery of Visovac , quietly placed in the middle of the Krka River, between the cascades Roiterki slap and Skradinski buk. You can also admire it from the top of the window on the small road of Drinovci in Siritovci. This place of unusual worship, in the Baroque-style Byzantine style, is an important spiritual centre of the Dalmatian Orthodox Diocese, whose seat is in Šibenik.

The park also has ruined fortresses, built by the Turkish or to protect themselves from them. Here are the main ones:

But the Krka National Park is especially distinguished by its spectacular falls scattered along your path. There are seven! How much does a ticket cost to Krka National Park from Split?

Krka National Park is open, depending on the season, from 8h or 9h . He shuts his doors. between 4pm and 8pm .

Access to the site is paid, and the rates are based on the period of the year envisaged to visit Krka National Park.

• July and August: 200 kr (27€)
• April, May, September, October: 110 kr€ (15)
• The rest of the year: 30 kr (4€)

How do I book an online ticket for Krka National Park?

Book your ticket online in advance is highly recommended if you intend to visit Krka between mid-July and late August . Thus, you will automatically go to the queue for transport instead of taking your pain in patience in front of the ticket office. Otherwise, don’t hesitate to come from the opening, from 7:30 a.m.!

Krka's official website does not offer online ticket sales but Croatia's national and natural parks website can provide them. reservation your ticket is only possible for the summer period, 1 June to 30 September . If it may be appropriate to book before your departure, feel free to print the ticket sent within 48 hours after the order is validated.

It is also possible to go through one agency or third party site to book a private tour or a guided tour.

How to access Krka National Park from Split?

What is recommended is to find a plane ticket for Zadar. Prices are normally not high and it is easy to reach the pretty city of Split. You can easily compare flights on Ulysses .

Once in Split, it’s very simple: Krka National Park is located approximately 80km .

• You can rent a car and take the E65 road to Lozovac, the entrance closest to the waterfalls. A big one free parking allows motorists to park near the park. From there you can enter or take a bus that will lead you to the cascades.
• You can also take one bus at the Split Central Station to Skradin, but the journey lasts near 6 a.m. ! The advantage is that once in Skradin, a second entrance allows you to take a boat that leaves approximately every half hour and stops at the foot of the cascades.

Where to stay near Krka National Park?

The largest city located near Krka National Park is Šibenik, 13km barely your goal. Šibenik has numerous accommodation offers, including charming hotels in the old town center. These, however, are stormed during the summer, think to book them well in advance to avoid any disappointment.

A few campsites are located near the Falls of Skradin , and we have to make the same note: make sure to rent your location or mobile home (not air conditioned!) long before your stay on site.
