Who has never dreamed of crowding the ground and discovering the small houses of the village of Hobbitebourg by watching one of the films in the trilogy of Lord of the Rings ? The region of Waikato offers on the site of Matamata to discover mythical village of the Lord of the Rings : the rural landscape of this corner of New Zealand was chosen for the reconstruction of the village of Hobbits of the County.

This site belongs to Dean Alexander’s farm and the property of this man had of course all that was necessary to bring out the world of the author of the JRR Tolkien saga. There is a lake, a large tree and a field, and while the construction began in 1999, the shooting took place the same year for 3 months. Today, the village is reborn for the greatest pleasure of the aficionados of the saga.

Many works were launched with 1.5 km of road, the design of hedges, the planting of trees, the construction of the famous Hobbits holes, the construction of the mill and the bridge in arc.

Today, the scenery of Hobbitebourg ( Hobbiton in English) are again visible and excursions are organized for visit these decors great cinema nature. How not to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of such a place? How not to imagine that a Hobbit surges from one of the small houses?

A real little treat for lovers of both trilogy (Le Le Lord of the Rings and Bilbo the Hobbit ) to walk in the detour of a path, near the house of Bilbo and that of Sam. There are different size homes to adapt to the plans and actors to “kill” on the perspective effect. However, be careful: do not expect to discover the interiors of the houses because all interiors have been turned into studios.

At the end of your visit to Hobbitebourg , you can refresh yourself in the local hostel called “Green Dragon” or Green Dragon Inn where you can order a soda or a good beer! After this break at the end of the journey, you can use your voucher for a free souvenir, and you will be accompanied to your hotel.
