The submerged village of Halfeti in Turkey

Discover this small Turkish village by the river

Member of the international movement Cittaslow , which was born in Italy in 1999, Halfeti is a fishing village, a real jewel, on the Firat River in the south Turkey .

Much of the village is submerged because of the Birecik dam, which flooded the region in the 1990s. You can see the roofs of some submerged houses along the lake.

In addition to its charming setting, Halfeti is famous for two things: black roses (which bloom dark red in the spring and turn black during the summer months) and peanuts. Many of the 200,000 annual visitors arrive in the spring and autumn to go hiking, swimming and water sports. Note that there are 9 other cities in Turkey like this one that are part of the Cittaslow movement.

The movement Cittaslow The main objective is to improve the quality of life in cities by taking into account the health and quality of life of its citizens, the authentic and local food supply and the existence of a rich cultural life.
