Pfeiffer Beach, its arch and its purple sand
Pfeiffer Beach is a beautiful wild beach which is very popular with the premises, but remains very little known among the tourists. Yet discovering it really is worth the detour. In addition to a magnificent view of the rocky coastline where there is a famous stack pierced and beautiful waves to surf, this beach has a purple sand quite rare, which comes from manganese particles flowing from the hillside. The more you go north of the beach, the more purple the sand will become.

Far from Big Sur , very touristy, however, the beach is not easy to access. By leaving Highway 1 ( California State Route 1 ) you must enter a small steep and narrow road ( Sycamore Canyon Road ) for several kilometers (about 4) passing in front of a few mailboxes. The landscape on this road is really beautiful. At the end you will find Pfeiffer Beach . It is probably the most beautiful and yet underestimated piece of coastline of the entire western coast of the United States. beach of Pfeiffer (not to be confused with other nearby beaches in the Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park ) is discreet and quiet.
But the people who go there have a good reason: the “secret” spot is taken from photo enthusiasts especially when the rays of the sun pass through the hole of the rocky ark, while the sand shines from its purple hue. The photos here will testify...
