Voluntary choices were made. For example, you make a list of all national parks were not useful and some were occulted. The goal is to make you want to discover Montenegro to visit the most beautiful places. Then you go on adventure!
1. Kotor
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Kotor is one of the jewels of Montenegro. The city is located at the southern end of the Kotor Buttes, a real aber in Norwegian. The main attraction of Kotor is its old town or Stari Grad, which is not without recall Dubrovnik . A real maze of paved alleys with its old buildings and churches that can only be admired with its feet. Take the time to have a meal or a simple coffee on one of the many places in the old city.
In Kotor, you can also walk along the harbour to breathe a little fresh air. For the most athletic, you can climb the 1530 steps to access the fortress from the old town. The view of the city and the aber is fabulous. If the fortress seems to you very far, there is a spot after about 50 steps. Access is paid in the summer but free the rest of the year.
2. Herceg Novi
This city is a real Wanderlix heart blow. Located just steps from the Croatia Herceg Novi understands the little interest of her new city by a beautiful old town. The architecture differs from that of Kotor and you feel quickly taken away by its buildings, terraces and churches. Do not hesitate to visit the citadel by the sea , which offers you a breathtaking view of the other side of the Kotor Bouches. It is no wonder that many expats have chosen Herceg Novi as a drop point!
During a short break, enjoy a kuvana kafa on the terrace. Long-term Ottoman Empire land, Montenegro has preserved some Turkish traditions. Turkish coffee is one of the most striking. Herceg Novi being a fairly local city, you will have more chance to taste it than Kotor.
3. The monastery of Ostrog
Here is the most visited monument in Montenegro and it is easy to understand why. Located on a mountainside, accessible by a scary road, the monastery rewards the effort provided. Built in the 17th century, the current aspect of the monastery dates back to the 1920s after its reconstruction following a fire. You can admire a building playing the mountain, beautiful frescoes and, here too, a breathtaking view. As always, you will be more quiet to visit it out of the two summer months.
If you rent a car , it is important to consider the perilous access to the monastery. Especially since the buses can rise from nowhere. If you don’t feel like driving, don’t hesitate to go by taxi. From Podgorica or Nikšić, the rates are correct if you are four people in the car.
4. Lake Skadar
When arriving by plane at Podgorica, it is the water plan observed before landing. Border between Montenegro and Albania , Lake Skadar offers landscapes from elsewhere. To admire it, go to Virpazar , starting point of small cruises. Long two hours, it allows to explore any corners of this beautiful natural lake. You can even swim there!
For those who have rented a car, you can go to the Pavlona Strana point of view to have the most beautiful view of the lake. It is also the most famous view of Montenegro.

In Petrovac, you can take time to rest, dinner or drink a drink along the harbour. Of course, the beach is also a popular activity! Well, you know, you can take a boat to get to Budva and around. The most beautiful view is undoubtedly from the ruins of the old castle that you will find all to the west of the city.

Ski? Let's talk about it! You should not forget winter sports enthusiasts with a start of the year destination. Kolašin does not have great interest in the summer. However, winter is THE spot in Montenegro! Amateurs will give themselves to joy and will taste the Balkan powder. The station is located 10 minutes from the city and around 1700 meters above sea level.
We give it to you, it’s a small station. But it is perfect for skiers because you find all types of ski slopes and ski lifts. Also prices challenge any competition compared to what we find in France or around. The months of January, February and even March are the best to stay in Kolašin.
8. Surroundings of Sveti Stefan
No, you are not asked to stay on this luxury island like Novak Djokovic and others! And this paragraph is not intended for those visiting Montenegro in the summer. Indeed, in very high season, the beaches and surrounding area are privatized and the day pays 100 € ! Nevertheless, Out of the summer months, privatization ceases. You can then walk along the most beautiful beaches of Montenegro and swim if the weather is on your side.
The recommended walk is to be done between Sveti Stefan and the village of Pržno (pronounced "perjno"). A good hour by really taking his time.
