1. The Soufrière

Climb on the "roof of the small Antilles" by taking the most famous hiking trails in Guadeloupe: that of The Soufrière . Beautifully planted in the commune of Saint-Claude , the one that is surnamed the Old Lady reserves you nice surprises throughout your ascension.

But before you dazzle yourself in front of its lush vegetation and its vapours from breaches, put your anoraks, your best shoes and prepare for 3 hours of intense walking through dizzy and wet paths. Your efforts will not be in vain, since once you reach the top you can admire a fantastic 360° panorama. On the way back, you will be delighted to relax in the hot water pool “The Yellow Baths” located near the parking lot.

2. Tour de La Soufrière

If you want to discover different facets of this famous dormant volcano, opt for the Tour de La Soufrière . Ideal for experienced hikers, this trail — starting from the Jaune Bath Parking — drives you on 7.3 kilometers full of intensity and promises to the key a sensational view of Basse-Terre and the surrounding islands, in clear weather.

Take the intersection with the trace of the Galion, stop at the sommital plateau, climb to the top of the soufrière and start your descent through the ladder pass. This may be memorable!

3. La Citerne – Col de l’Échelle – La Soufrière

Always from the Yellow Baths, in the commune of Saint-Claude, try this physical challenge on 9 kilometers that takes you to meet the Citerne , col de l’Échelle and of Soufrière .

After you are in the wet forest, instead of continuing in the direction of the volcano summit, take the road leading to the tank. At 1 103 metres above sea level, you will find a volcanic crater with a small lake. You can also enjoy beautiful views of the mountains and the ocean. After this stop in the clouds, take the pass of the Scale to descend the Soufrière massif.

4. 1st and 2nd Falls of the Carbet

It’s close to Capesterre-Belle-Eau , in the National Park, that you can make this fabulous hike in Guadeloupe. Adventure in the heart of the rainforest, starting to discover the first two Falls of the Carbet and fall under the charm of the magnificence of wild landscapes.

Slowly move in the surrounding calm — troubled a few times by the song of birds — by taking a paved path and wooden steps leading you to the second fall which, being the easiest access, is actually the most frequented. Admire this impressive 110 metre high waterfall and then resume your progress towards the first fall that will dazzle you.

Higher of the three emblematic Falls of the Carbet, with its 115 meters, it offers a striking show where limpid water falls with fracas in orange basins. All with an incredible view of the Atlantic Ocean!

5. 3rd Fall of the Carbet

Always to Capesterre-Belle-Eau , but this time outside the Guadalupian National Park, you will find a 3.7-kilometre round-trip path leading to the Third Fall of the Carbet . Follow a paved path, cross the mahogany plantations and slowly sink into dense vegetation punctuated with wooden caillebotis, apparent roots and muddy passages.

After winding between ferns, blisters and other tropical plants, you will hear the rumour of the waterfall that awaits you after a steep slope to descend using a rope. There, with its 20 meters high and its most impressive flow, the smallest of the three falls is facing you and calls for bathing in its large circular basin.

6. Port Louis – Anse Bertrand
