The 8 most beautiful hikes to do around Font-Romeu

In winter, Font-Romeu is known as one of the great ski resorts of the Pyrenees. But in the summer it is the hike in Saint-Romeu that takes over! Beautiful trails to plunge you into the unique landscapes of the Regional Natural Park of the Catalan Pyrenees...

From the peaks and many lakes of altitude, this is the most characteristic of the hikes of Font-Romeu: the commune is perched at 1,800 m of altitude, just a step from the Spain , surrounded by mountains whose most recognizable of all, Mount Carlit, peaks at 2,921 m. The walkers of any level will find their happiness in Font-Romeu, from the small 2-hour hike on the way back, to the more arduous ascent to the Catalan peaks...

All will enjoy as many beautiful landscapes as possible, provided they wait for the snow melt to access all the trails without congestion. Visit the first beautiful spring days to hike to Saint-Romeu!

1. Le Sentier du Coll del Pam

This pretty hiking tour in Font-Romeu leads you to the edge of the resort Pyrenees 2 000 , usually very quiet in the beautiful season. The walking route is accessible to the whole family, to walk quietly and without any notable difficulty, while taking a good bowl of mountain air: the summits of Carlit and Canigou are in sight!

The itinerary is abundantly forested, and runs between Pyrenean species such as spices, pines and lezes... in spring, a feast for smell.

2. Ascension of Mount Pic Carlit by the lakes

Here is a great classic of hiking in Font-Romeu, the famous Mont Carlit... it’s not a small business, and this difficult walking route is reserved for seasoned hikers, or to do with a guide. From Lake Bouillouses, the ascent leads you almost 900 m higher on the highest point of the Oriental Pyrenees, at exactly 2921 m.

The panorama from above is worth it! The loop also allows you to discover a whole series of beautiful lakes, to go and return.

3. La Boucle des 12 Lacs from Lac des Bouillouses

This superb hike in Saint-Romeu is a bit the easy version of the ascent to Mont Carlit: more accessible, it is a beautiful loop that winds between a dozen lakes of altitude, in striking high mountain landscapes, with always in the background the tip of Mont Carlit.

Splendid, while saving at least 500 m of denial! The hike starts at the level of the beautiful Lac des Bouillouses, an easy starting point of access by car where all the necessary is present to recover from a beautiful walk. Also in the loop version of the 9 Lakes!

4. The pond of the Pradeilles by GR10

A small hike in Saint-Romeu that is for everyone: small and large will be able to walk this path without great difficulty, and then tell them that they followed the mythical GR10!

It is of course only a short section of this path that connects the Mediterranean and the Atlantic via the Pyrenees, but a beautiful route back and forth, pleasant, with a superb arrival at the pond of the Pradelles (in Catalan, estany de la Pradella to do more local...).

5. Ascension of the Pic dels Moros (Pic des Mauroux)

We are in the heart of the Oriental Pyrenees, so we have to expect to do a bit of denial with the hikes in Font-Romeu... but who says denivelé also said wonderful point of view at the finish, and this is still true with this beautiful route in loop and altitude, with a hook by the Pic dels Moros at 2,128 m altitude.

Take the time to admire the plateau of the Cerdagne, and the Spanish Pyrenees, below this summit. Close to Font-Romeu, a mountain hike not to be missed.

6. Trail of the Hermitage and Arboretum of Font-Romeu

The advantage of this nice hiking route in Font-Romeu is that it starts directly from the centre of the village. A loop through the pleasant and family forest, a rando to get rid of the legs, and discover two emblematic sites of the commune, the Arboretum de Font-Romeu and the Hermitage Notre-Dame de Font-Romeu.

Interestingly, a pilgrimage takes place to the chapel and its statue of the Verge every 8 September: you will not be alone on the path!

7. The Pic de la Calme

A beautiful hike in Font-Romeu that runs a time on the slopes of the Pic de la Calme (Picture de la Calme) Pic de la Calma ), before reaching Pradeilles Lake by offering some beautiful views.

We then tackle a more serious denial to reach the summit of the Pic de la Calme, perched at 2,206 m of altitude, which is worth a look. Then go back to the starting point to finish the loop.

8. Les Bouillouses – low lakes

Another hike in Font-Romeu that is centred around several altitude lakes, characteristic of the corner: once again from the beautiful lake of Bouillouses, this time several steps to Lake Long ( estany Llong ), Black Lake ( estany Negre ) and Lake Pradeilles ( estany Pradella ).

A loop route without great difficulty, which crosses beautiful mountain landscapes.
