The 10 most beautiful hikes to do around Bordeaux

To take the air and get out of the big city, the hike around Bordeaux quickly becomes indispensable to those who try it: in a radius close to the Bordeaux metropolis, beautiful walking routes are within reach of all, from the simple walk to the great hike.

Among the most dynamic cities in France, Bordeaux is very pleasant to discover, between the historical heart and the banks of the Garonne. Another asset of Bordeaux, its region: it’s easy to get out of the agglomeration, whether by car, by regional train or even by bike, to find yourself in nice areas of nature, in a wood or on the edge of a river, to take the air from a beautiful exit.

Hiking around Bordeaux does not present big challenges to walkers in general. The Gironde is a flat region, with very soft reliefs: no question here to accumulate denial! With a good variety of trails on the other hand, you have the choice to go on a hike for a nice two-hour walk as for a more challenging exit.

1. Nice walk in the forest of Taillan-Médoc

Let's start with a hiking route around easy Bordeaux, with the Taillan-Médoc forest tower. Count 35 minutes to reach the starting point from Bordeaux by car.

Without any difficulty, this hike takes more of the beautiful walks in the shade of the trees of the forest of Taillan-Médoc: for a quiet, family-friendly outing with the children, don’t hesitate to venture also on the crossing paths, to explore the three marked sports routes, and to plan a small picnic on the grass, for a complete exit.

2. Boucle along the river of L’Eau Bourde

This hike around Bordeaux, particularly refreshing, takes place all along the river between Gradignan and Canéjan. On average 25 minutes by car to reach the starting point of the route from the center of Bordeaux ( 45 minutes by bus ).

The ride has nothing difficult and is accessible to all. Keep your eyes open, the surroundings of the river and the pine forest of Canéjan have a varied fauna and flora. On the way, you can visit the Priory of Cayac, which welcomes the walkers: the pilgrims of Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle are there.

Long and pleasant green way to hike around Bordeaux, the Roger Lapébie track, baptized with the name of a former winner of the Tour de France, is also ready to walk. Ombraged all along and well-appointed, the track allows to reach the peaceful village of Sadirac, while crossing the eponymous forest.

A relatively short and easy output for all levels. Count one half hour drive to reach Sadirac from the center of Bordeaux.

4. The Canejan Forest and the Green Lake, in a loop

We go back to the southwest of Bordeaux, where we left in Canéjan a previous walking route (n°2): two hikes around Bordeaux that can be coupled to lengthen the exit and increase the difficulty.

Here we start the walk directly in the forest of Canéjan ( 26 minutes drive from the centre of Bordeaux, where pleasant pine odors predominate. A predominantly shaded route, which passes in front of Haussmann Castle before making the turn of Lake Vert, then returning to the starting point.

Direction Bouliac, à less than 20 minutes drive from the center on the right bank of the Garonne, for this pleasant hike around Bordeaux, there again of easy level.

Built on the hillsides at the edge of the village, Loc Boué Park offers enough relief to accumulate a small denial during the day. Parenthesis of greenery, not too crowded, a nice and rather disappointing exit at the gates of Bordeaux.

Another nice green getaway for a hike around Bordeaux both close and easily accessible from the city centre ( 35 minutes by car to reach Parempuyre).

Go to the Bois d’Arboudeau, with its 17 hectares of greenery, its many trees of the region, its well-lined paths and large ponds: what to compose a varied output and take a good bowl of air, perfect for a family day with the youngest, for example.

There is no need to go far to hike around Bordeaux: in this case, our route starts right in the heart of the city centre, Place de la Bourse! In another kind than the previous walks, this walk is urban and peri-urban, and generates a lot of kilometers.

The general idea is to explore the modern neighbourhoods of Bordeaux Lac, north of the city. In the beautiful days, think about taking your bathing suits: by making the tour of the great water plan, note that the beach of the lake allows to make a jump in the water, ideal in summer when it is hot in town.

In the east of Bordeaux the wine region of Entre-deux-Mers begins: the hills on which the vine is cultivated gain a little relief (the First Côtes de Bordeaux, for wine lovers), and several opulent castles make their appearance on the way.

It is a region that lends itself well to the hike around Bordeaux, like this pretty hilly route that starts and ends in Carignan-de-Bordeaux, 25 minutes drive Central. Like a taste of Bordeaux wine campaigns.

Marine pines, parasol pines, oaks and chestnut trees are the park and offer a welcome shade when the sun warms, while various sports equipment allow you to enjoy your hike other activities. What to organize a nice half day out.

10. Boiling in the forest around the Laugey Sablière in Saint-Jean-d’Illac

In one big half hour car , you join Saint-Jean-d’Illac and get out of the vast peri-urban area of Bordeaux. At the edge of the town begins this pleasant hike around Bordeaux, on shady forest roads, homeless, and practicable in all seasons.

The itinerary largely follows the course of La Jalle, a small stream of water, whose freshness accompanies you to the old Sablière du Laugey: the land on the lake becomes sandy.
