Beautiful Canary Islands, Lanzarote is renowned for its warm climate all year round, beaches and volcanoes. It is thus an exceptional destination from January to December. It will especially seduce water sports enthusiasts, such as scuba diving and snorkeling.

Whether you are beginners or confirmed, you will find it hard to do in Lanzarote. And if you’re not interested in diving, then know that there are also many spots where to practice snorkeling. So to help you, we present you here the best diving spots in Lanzarote and snorkeling.

1. The Museo Atlantico

At Playa Blanca, you will find one of the most amazing diving spots in Lanzarote. The divers will be able to visit the only submarine museum in Europe: the Museo Atlantico. The site houses a collection of statues, made especially by the famous artist Jason deCaires Taylor.

These underwater statues are of 12 to 15 metres deep . Many nearby diving clubs offer guided tours of the site. You will then discover amazing and renowned sculptures, such as Rubicon or Lampadusa Rafts.

Just next to this site, Playa Dorada is a nice site to observe barracudas, dorades, sardines, tunas, angel sharks, rays and many other species.

2. La Playa Flamingo

A few steps from Playa Blanca and Museo Atlantico is another famous diving spot in Lanzarote: Playa Flamingo. On this site you will find pleasant and easy dives up to 18 meters deep. It is possible to start from the beach and then pass the breakwater to access more interesting waters.

You can then admire a varied and dense marine and submarine fauna. The beginner and experienced divers will be able to contemplate merous, tuna, cardinal fish and even dolphins! Huge fish banks also cross the area of Playa Flamingo.

3. La Playa Chica – The Blue Hole

Located in Puerto del Carmen, this small beach is home to beautiful spots where diving in Lanzarote. This sheltered bay has different sites at several depth levels: 10 meters from the start and up to 28 or 35 metres upwards. In shallow waters, you can admire beautiful fish benches, including silver dorades. In deeper waters, cliffs and rocks are home to a superb marine fauna and flora.

But the must-see spot of Playa Chica is obviously the Blue Hole . Located at a depth of 20 to 30 metres , it is probably the most famous diving spot in Lanzarote. By entering its main hole, you will explore a large cave. The latter is a superb shelter for many fishes, including merous, sharks and rays. Don't miss going there if you have the level!

In addition to Blue Hole , Playa Chica is home to other must-see spots such as Catedral . This incredible site is between 24 and 30 meters deep . You will admire beautiful underwater landscapes, many species of fish and coral.

4. La Burrera – La Graciosa

The island of La Graciosa is located in the largest marine reserve in Europe. Located north of Lanzarote, it houses superb diving spots. Among them, there is one that stands out particularly: La Burrera. This diving is surely one of the best in all the Canary Islands.

This must-see spot is home to an incredible marine life. Perfect for experienced divers, it presents a breathtaking landscape, only 20 meters deep . In its rock labyrinths, you will admire many local species, such as merous, dorades or lobsters in the Canary Islands.

Snorkeling

Diving is not the only nautical activity to discover the seabed. With a mask and tuba, or even a pair of palms, you can easily admire the fauna and flora of the Canary coast.

The Playa Chica or Playa Flamingo, cited above, are so great spots for diving and snorkeling. But there are many more! Here are some must-see spots where to make snorkeling in Lanzarote.

5. La Playa del Papagayo

At the southern tip of the island of Lanzarote is the beautiful and wild Playa del Papagayo. The latter is known to be one of the best snorkeling spots in Lanzarote. Here you will enjoy a clear turquoise water and golden sands where you rest.

With its cliffs and hills, the beach is well sheltered from the wind. The sea is so calm and clear. In this protected creek, you will be able to throw yourself in a quiet discovery of underwater fauna and flora, with mask and tuba!

Around Playa del Papagayo, you will also find 4 other friendly beaches for snorkeling or swimming: Playa Mujeres , Playa del Pozo , Caleta del Congrio and Puerto Muleas .

6. La Playa Bastian

On the east coast of the island you will find the charming seaside town of Costa Teguise . This is one of the best snorkeling spots in Lanzarote: Playa Bastian. This charming beach is a great place for a day bathing. But this one is especially amazing for a mask and tuba session! Near the rocks, you can admire some beautiful fish.

Bird of the Playa Bastian, the Playa del Jablillo is another great spot where to make snorkeling in Lanzarote. Don’t miss it if you have a little time!

7. La Graciosa

8. The beaches of Arrieta

Another must-see spot where to make snorkeling in Lanzarote is obviously Arrieta in the north of the island. The small seaside town houses two beautiful beaches. The first, Playa del Charcon , is a pretty little rocky bay. Well sheltered, the spot is pretty quiet. And you can swim quietly while admiring beautiful fish. In this way, you can observe several species of Atlantic fish like labras or dorades.

The second, Playa de la Garita , is located south of the city. It is also perfect for snorkeling if you swim especially towards its pier and feet. In this place, you can admire the amount of fish, such as brèmes, zebrafish, parrotfish or rainbow. Towards the end of the pier, you can also see urchins and crabs. Be vigilant, however, to the boats in the vicinity and to the fishermen who can be present on the pier!
