6 sites where canoe-kayak in the Gard

Where to make canoe-kayak in the Gard, between Provence, Cevennes and Languedoc? Here is our selection of places to navigate on the gardoise waters!

Drawing its name from the eponymous river – otherwise called Gardon – the Gard is populated by 738,189 inhabitants between the Provencal and Rhodanian plain in the east, the Grau-du-Roi in the south and the Cévenne National Park in the north and west. Built in the Occitanie region and bordering six departments (Bouches-du-Rhône, Ardèche, Vaucluse, Hérault, Lozère and Aveyron), the Gard is one of the most visited departments of the Midi de la France. Among its many attractions, nature – the Cévennes being the green lung of the department – and its streams flowing at the foot of vestiges and historic sites – the Pont du Gard, for example -, allow for beautiful outdoor water activities: what to do kayaking in the Gard and fall in love with a beautiful sun-filled region all year round.

In the four corners of the Gard, rivers and rivers flow from the Cévennes to the sea and the Rhone, including the Gardons, the Cèze, the Rhone and many others. Here is our selection of sites where to rent a solo boat or several to make canoe-kayak in the Gard.

How to visit the Gard without kayaking in the Gardon Gorges? It would be like visiting Paris without seeing the Eiffel Tower! With Canoe Collias, on the town of Vers-Pont-du-Gard – the road to Uzès -, a family-run company allows to kayak on the gardon, exploring an incredible fauna and flora and superb historical monuments (moulins, medieval buildings) including pretty "fishing spots": parches, pints, goujons, etc.

Natu’rando

Natu’rando offers a “passport for adventure” to discover Gardoise garrigues and majestic monuments such as the Pont-du-Gard while sailing on the Gardon. Canoe-kayak in the Gard allows you to explore a bright nature and combine sporting activities and relaxation. Departures are in Vers-Pont-du-Gard, Pont Saint-Nicolas de Collias or Russan and go to Remoulins. Want to make canoe in the Gard at night? It is possible, with the formula “canoe night descent”. We may be able to cross beavers, turtles and birds by admiring the night lights of the Pont du Gard.

Canoe The Tourbillon

Canoeing in the Gard or kayaking will be easy along the Gardon: an ideal way to get out between friends, as a couple or as a family, it is a good opportunity to discover an exceptional natural environment, where the sun shines all year round: the gardon massif and its gorges are indeed a unique natural space, with a natural reserve and many protected species. Attention to the time you want to kayak. In the summer, the tourist affluence is booming and it is often over 30-35°C. In the autumn, the Gardon can be unpredictable, violent and turbulent during the famous "cevenol episodes", when the rivers get mad and turn into terrible torrents taking everything on their way. The locals call them "gardonnades", characterized by impressive and raw sub-ites and very rapid decruits: spring (May/June) will be preferred to kayak in the Gard.

At Canoe Le Tourbillon, the hikes take place between 9:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., from Collias and go to Pont Saint-Nicolas (Sainte-Anastasie) or Pont-du-Gard (8 to 19 kilometers). For half a day.
