Public transport in Krakow: timetables and prices of buses and trams

Krakow is an extremely well-served city by buses and trams: its transport network clashes the city and its neighbourhoods, to the point that the car becomes superfluous.

With the majority of sites of interest close to each other, the best way to enjoy the old center of interest Krakow is on foot. Especially since most of the historical centre of the city has been practically transformed into a pedestrian area ( see maps and plans ).

If the public transport of Krakow is visually rather vetuous, the city can boast of an excellent network, which allows to serve the whole agglomeration by facilitating the connection between the suburbs, the neighbourhood and the city center. Krakow with no metro line, the most used transport is trams and buses.

Tram lines

28 tram lines connect almost all of the neighborhoods with the city centre. In addition to these lines that circulate on a daily basis, you can add a dozen lines that come to graze on the holiday days or to replace a line in work.

Unlike what one might expect, Krakow’s trams are very one-time, and the times of passage displayed are guaranteed by the MPK company that manages the network. In addition, the tram frequency every 10 minutes (up to 20 minutes outside the peak hours) makes it possible to move without waiting too long.

Bus lines

In addition to its tram network, the city of Krakow can boast that it also has a very complete network of bus lines. There are 4 types of bus lines:

  • Numbered lines of 100 to 199 circulate regularly and spend every 10 to 20 minutes. The buses that are connected to the suburbs, however, circulate more rarely.
  • Numbered lines of 200 to 299connect Krakow and the suburbs.
  • The lines 500 to 599 are fast lines, the bus does not stop at each stop.
  • night bus are numbered 600 to 699 and connect every hour the different neighborhoods with the city center. Some lines serve the airport.

At the bus station ( located behind the railway station ), you can find buses serving most villages around Krakow: Zakopane , Wieliczka salt mines and Auschwitz concentration camp (city of Oswiecim).

Tickets (tariffs, durations)

Transport tickets are valid for both buses and trams. They can be purchased on the latest trams on an automatic terminal (prepare currency) or directly from the bus driver. It is also possible to buy tickets in kiosks and small shops (press, alcohol...). Finally, some stations are equipped with ticket distributors accepting coins and tickets.
