A trip to Sfax, the Tunisian "South capital" for this summer? Here's our guide to find out where to stay in Sfax!
Sfax, bordered to the east by the Mediterranean Sea and opened on the Gulf of Gabès, is a port city located in the east of Tunisia. The city plays a major economic role for the country through the export of olive oil and fish. The financial centre of North Africa is also a top tourist destination. With 272,801 inhabitants and nearly 600,000 people throughout the urban area, Sfax has a concentric topography converging towards its historic city centre and an extensive area of 220 km2. Staying in an apartment in Sfax can be complicated, but you can turn to villas, hotels and accommodation in the living room. It will take an average of 1500 Tunisian dinars to stay in a villa, or 505 € per month: to say that staying in Sfax is cheap.
From the Medina to the Port of Sfax, Pic Ville in Zitouna or the City of Martyrs or Cité Jardin, the districts and districts of the city have a different atmosphere from each other. Here is our selection of places to sleep in Sfax.

The historic quarter of the city is one of the few medieval cities in North Africa to have preserved an authentic soul without undergoing urban modernisation projects. It is a quadrilateral of 600 metres over 400, surrounded by large stone walls and moellons. There are several mosques, including the Great Mosque, and innumerable shops where to find souvenirs: about ten souks. Carpets, leathers, jewellery, clothing – alas imported -, bibelots, cheeks, wool weaving and traditional clothing, oriental music instruments, narguiles, etc.: give yourself to the art of merchanting!
It is the dynamic shopping center of the old town, where the old craftsman still has his letters of nobility. In the Medina, cafes, restaurants and hotels are in large numbers. Enjoy beautiful walks to admire the national heritage of Sfax: the great mosque, ramparts, minarets. Staying in the Medina is enjoying a timeless trip to Sfax.

To the north of La Médina, Bab Jebli will be an ideal area to sleep in Sfax one night or two if you plan to take a bus to try to other cities in Tunisia. The area is central, with two bus terminals (12 and 7). A strategic position to prepare a trip to the ancient ruins of Thyna, a few kilometers south of Sfax. In addition, take a stop at the big market for fish and seafood in the centre of the neighbourhood to delight local products. The Mother’s and Child’s Garden can shelter you during the torrid summer days.

Located close to the Port of Sfax, this area on the edge of the coast is a top tourist area: it includes in its midst the Place de la Victoire – formerly Porte de France during the French protectorate -, famous arc of triumph adjoining the medina, and on all pictures souvenirs of travel in Tunisia.
