La Roche-sur-Yon , or La Roche, is a commune of the center-west of France located in the department of Vendée (85), in the region of Pays de la Loire. Founded in 1804, the city moved from a small town to a modern city underneath Napoleon I , around the central esplanade, the Place Napoléon. Baptized successively – with political strife since the French Revolution and the First Empire – La Roche-sur-Yon, Napoleon, Bourbon-Vendée, Napoleon-Vendée, she resumed her initial name in 1870.

The small town centre of La Roche-sur-Yon is, like Aix-en-Provence , ceinted by a pentagon-shaped course, the boulevard Aristide Briand and boulevard d’Italie . On the Place de la Vieille Clock , was a medieval city, including the Renaissance House, dating back to 1566, today bears witness to this over-year period. The city centre is centred around Place Napoléon – Place Nap’, say the locals – and stretches to the Haras de la Vendée. With its 3 hectares and four basins, Place Nap’ is a peaceful place to stroll, snack or picnic in the heart of the city.
The city's commercial bulwark, the centre houses 500 independent and franchised shops, which can find everything to make its purchases. We'll also find most of the bars to get out of town. It is an ideal area where to sleep in La Roche-sur-Yon, because everything is possible on foot. Between street Salvador Allende and La Fayette, there are many restaurants on the street. Northeast of the boulevard des Belges , is the district of La Roche-sur-Yon University. That says university campus, says young, festive and attractive neighborhood (in terms of rates). If you want to stay in apartments or houses in the city centre, without being too far away, this is where you have to choose to stay in La Roche-sur-Yon. There will be less hotels, but try the accommodation at home! The neighborhood is crossed by the Yon River, which can allow beautiful walks along its shores.
